Discussion: Clinton Aide To Sanders: Change Your 'Tone' If You Want Another Debate

She does well in the debates. He’s still an angry guy from Brooklyn. Why not debate?

OT: Am I alone seeing the prime members’ “Prime” mark magnified yuuuuge now and then since the comment system upgrade? I’m using FF, so it may be the browser, but I’m not sure.

Frankly, I’m tired of Bernie’s unnecessary hectoring as I’d still rather see him as HRC’s fire and brimstone Veep…

Exactly. And when you bring up the subject of tax increases to his supporters, they say one of two things:

1.) Not true. There wouldn’t be increases OR

2.) the increases would be well worth it because we’d get some things for free that we’'d have been paying for before.

Neither of those answers are popular with the public at large.

Jeeze, be informed tax increase in leu of health insurance premiums, the average household making 50K a year would save $5,000 a yr.

Hillary is dodging debates with Bernie for a good reason. Every time the two candidates are onstage together, Sanders looks like a liberal Democrat debating a moderate Republican.

Agreed…and his condescending “holier than thou” has got to stop.

Sander’s pre-emptive claim of not running negative campaign is an illusion - The constant haranguing on “walls-street-fundraising” by HRC has gotten prolific, ladened with name calling.

Guess what Bernie Bros? It’s a free country and y’all can put up your money-making endeavors to HRC’s, and let’s see who’s more virtuous…SPLAT!

Some people would save with BernieCare. Others would get soaked.

Given that Sanders pledged not to run negative ads, this is fair terrain to contest.

Among other things, it goes to directly to the question of whether he’s as honest as he claims to be.

Do you guys get that every time you go crazy goggly-eyed about The Speeches, the rest of us–who, as it happens, still outnumber you–roll our eyes? Every time I hear it, I hear the wingnuts demanding that Obama release his college transcripts and the Secret Missing Michelle Obama Thesis in 2008.

You guys make it perfectly clear that no matter what’s in them, it’ll be grist for your conspiracy mill and then complain that she won’t give it to you and expect to be taken seriously? Really?

“This is a man who said he’d never run a negative ad ever,” Benenson later added. “He’s now running them. They’re planning to run more. Let’s see the tone of the campaign he wants to run before we get to any other questions.”

Sanders is now running negative ads? Which ads would those be? I’d like to see, hear, or read them. Because something tells me that an ad telling the truth would be called as a negative ad simply because that truth reflects negatively on the candidate.

Telling the truth is not an attack ad. If the ads are unsubstantiated, or if they are a partial truth packaged in a way to mislead, I’d be among those to condemn them. Barring that, my condemnation rests with Joel Benenson for being the one trying to mislead.

Huh? I mean, I would rather campaigns be run on the issues and on positive, informative messaging, but negative campaigning is a part of election campaigns and will always be a part of them. She’s had her turns at it as well, latching onto the 'socialist" thing and what not…and I railed about her doing it when she did it. To suggest that she’s to be treated as somehow exempt from or above the normal knock-down drag-out political scrum is absurd. She’s PART of it. Moreover, her campaign pretending she’s not part of it just strikes me as disingenuous and silly…and not a little bit insulting.

Well, that wouldn’t be the first time you were wrong. Really.

Because expecting the same kind of health care, free from worries of bankruptcy, as is afforded every citizen of every first-world nation with whom we compete economically is a soaking.

The point is that in a year when it is critical that the Dems win the Presidency and as many other races as possible a scorched earth campaign against Hillary does no one any good. It increases the likelihood that we will end up with Trump or some other awful Republican for president. He is now sounding desperate to win the Presidency when previously he was all about getting his ideas out there. In the last few debates he has just repeated all the same grievances he has against Clinton he had from the start and still hasn’t provided any details on how he will implement the things he is advocating for.

I’m in the same boat. At this point, pretty everyone has chosen their candidate – with a great deal of thought, I might add. I think if the polls showed there is a large pool of reliable voters who are undecided at this stage, it would be called for.

Skin tone. HRC is mainly interested in debating orange people from here on out.

What Benenson’s calling “Negative” campaign ads are nothing but calling Hillary out on her long history of bad decisions and entitlement, treating rules, facts and the truth as disposable commodities; just like the victims she’s so fond of embracing for the all-important photo ops. Hillary’ll come around to agreeing to debate Senator Sanders, just like the last time, when a hosting news organization gives him a town hall meeting without her. “Change Your Tone” indeed, I’d tell the Clinton campaign to KMA.

I absolutely love it. This is the kind of stuff I want to see from HRC. She’s the frontrunner and now it’s time to act like it. Clinton doesn’t need another debate and I’m guessing the vast majority of voters don’t need an additional debate either. The only party who really benefits from another debate is Sanders, and if he’s insisting on going increasingly negative then there’s really no reason why Clinton should appease him. HRC has been pretty damn charitable toward Sanders and his campaign, but she needn’t continue to entertain his wishes if his goal is to continue to trash her. This is how the game is played. When you’re behind, you ask for more debates. When you’re the frontrunner, you get to set the tone and the terms of the debate if you even choose to participate. This isn’t mean, it’s not even hardball, it’s simply politics.
