Discussion: Cleveland Clinic Yanks Fundraiser From Trump's Mar-A-Lago Club

Sooo . . . their “neutrality” and “impartiality” dictates that they should hold an event at a place so closely associated with our racist, mentally ill president that it constitutes a virtual endorsement and, in the process, will likely put money into his pocket?

Yeah, that’s some mighty fine first rate United Way thinking, that is.

The difference between upper class and upper income. 45 was fine as an innkeeper. As a racist president? Meh. They’ll take their money elsewhere.

Right wing babe in the woods regrets voting for 45. Seems to think the 70-year old manchild didn’t mean what he said, and he’d be domesticated the moment he reached 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the Oval Office would have a calming influence on him. He has a Twitter account. Get in touch with him. https://twitter.com/JuliusKrein

I suspect there will be cancellations. Bad optics for any large organization, and people will be paying attention now.

I’ll say this, if I were negotiating or managing an event booked at one of peepee’s ‘resorts’ I would sure as hell be talking cancellation - even if only to get them to cut their rates drastically to keep me. Even if under contract, there has to be performance clauses that a good lawyer could work with.

Hey, it’s what a Master Negotiator would do, right? I’m sure Donnie would understand that!
And, of course it is the only thing he really understands…

All of trump’s properties should be boycotted by any and all patriotic Americans.

I stopped donating to the Red Cross many years ago and switched to supporting Mercy Corps, mostly because Mercy Corps does all the emergency things that Red Cross does, plus they have an international network of people who work on the ground with whatever population is in need to rebuild their societies: training the citizens to build their infrastructure, grow their own food, obtain clean water, and support themselves. They provide play opportunities for children in addition to education, they make micro loans to people so they can earn a living (for example, help women to buy materials to make goods to sell, help fishermen to repair or replace boats that are damaged or destroyed), provide safe cook stoves, and generally work with “the locals” to help them get back to living and caring for themselves and their children.

They operate in the U.S. as well as all over the world, in some pretty dismal hotspots.

Dear Ms. Baker,

I was reading an article at TalkingPointsMemo about the
Cleveland Clinic’s decision, and a comment included a link to the Palm Beach
Post story about your urging charities to exercise their consciences in choosing
a fundraising venue.

Thank you so much for standing up for what is
right!

I don’t understand this. Why would these groups have anything to do with Trump or his properties in the first place? I don’t mean now that he’s (surprise!) turned out to be an ignorant, incompetent President, but at any time? Why would you have anything to do with him when he was just an ignorant, incompetent businessman? Add in the fact that he’s the poster child for the cliche “money can’t buy class”, and I just don’t understand why anyone, rich or poor, would have anything to do with him.

Wow ! What a simple statement! Pow!! Good job

At the time of planning, they probably has an ‘auction’ where the different venues could give the price for the event.
The ‘best’ (lowest price vs tackiness vs a lot of of factors (infrastucture, clientele proximitity) bid wins. I don’t know the “planning horizon” for this kind of stuff, but more than a year or two is plausible.
