Discussion for article #224588
Iâm sure Prime Minister Apartheid will get right on arresting and interrogating several hundred Jewish Israelis and imprisoning their politicians until the culprits are found, like he did to folks in Gaza.
I do not understand how Israel is the bad guy here. Yes, Netyanyahu is probably as close as Israel can get to GWB, but the nation as a whole does not want war, they would sign a treaty in a heartbeat.
On the other side is Hamas, whoâs stated goal is to completely destroy Israel and they will kill and bomb and send teenage girls on suicide missions on busses full of school kids and old people until they themselves either die or get arrested.
For all of you supporting the Palestinians, whatâs your end game here? What solution do see? To have every single Jewish man woman and child pack up their belongings and leave the country? Because short of that, Hamas is not going to stop killing every chance it gets.
A marked difference in response here. When the victims are Jews then they bomb the West Bank in revenge, a terrorist act by any reasonable definition. When the victims are non-Jews then they call for patience as the full facts are discovered.
My patience was exhausted long ago. We should give no assistance whatsoever to the Apartheid state. The whole notion of a Jews-only state is obscene and there really isnât any other interpretation of âJewish stateâ that is consistent with Netanyahuâs actions.
âSign a treaty in a heartbeatâ
You forget that the settlers that Netenyahu supports 100% murdered Rabin for attempting to do just that.
Netenyahu has zero interest in a two state solution. The only reason it has to be discussed at all is to allow US Jews to feel good about Israel. Because without the two state solution on the table then either Israel is an Apartheid state or it stops being a Jewish one.
Israel rejected the two state solution with the murder of Rabin.
Taggart: I got it! I know how we can run everyone out of Rock Ridge.
Hedley Lamarr: How?
Taggart: Weâll kill the first born male child in every household.
Hedley Lamarr: [after some consideration] Too Jewish.
Bart, they said you was hung.
âŚAnd they was right.
âIsrael has accused Hamas of abducting and killing the three teens, and has arrested hundreds of its members across the West Bank. Rocket fire from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip has meanwhile intensified, and been met with Israeli air strikes.â
"Police have not determined whether the reported incidents are related or what motive may have been behind them. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged authorities to swiftly investigate the âreprehensible murderâ and called on all sides ânot to take the law into their own handsâ
???
If the Israelis are the main victims here then why is that over 10 times more Palestinian children have been murdered by Israelis? I canât speak for other people but my âend gameâ as you call it would be for the United States to recognize that Palestinians are more victimized than Israelis are and that until the United States is willing to hold Israel equally accountable for their actions none of that will change.
Is this the work of a Hollywood humorist or a political operative?
They are all victims, all of the dead, and both sides have blood on their hands no doubt about it. But I am only seeing ONE side reaching out, however honestly we may never know because the other side wants nothing to do with it, for a reasonable solution.
And how does the United States, other than with strong words, which I have heard out of this president, enforce an UNSIGNED treaty? Until there is a signed binding peace accord, what is there for the rest of the world to ask Israel to abide by?
How about asking Israel to abide by international law? Theyâve been in violation of that for decades.
The Israelis understand the value of nibbling away at a situation, solidifying whatever incremental gains they can manage. So, they make a show of negotiating, while all the while continuing to build more âsettlements,â which become a fait accompli (I love the choice of the word âsettlement,â by the way - it creates the impression that these folks are simply bringing civilization to formerly vacant wilderness).
The Palestinians, on the other hand, have stubbornly refused to sign off on any agreement that doesnât give them absolutely 100% of what they want, no matter how unrealistic, like the âright of returnâ (which would effectively demolish the Israeli state).
Hence, an endless standoff, absent the imposition of a solution by the rest of the world. Each side has its enablers.
Depends upon whether you regard Mel Brooks as just a humorist, or as an hilarious subversive.
Nothing in your post I overly disagree with.
I think I just over compensate on blogs like TPM because so many on the left seem to always go after Israel almost in a knee jerk fashion, when thereâs plenty of blame to go around.
How about UN Resolution 242. That would be a start.
Nothing will change. They are all afraid of AIPAC.
Itâs really a pity that Edward Said isnât still around. I always found his analyses of the situation to be spot-on and persuasive.
This is what I donât understand.
Israel is a functioning democracy where a woman was only a few votes short to beating Netanyahu for the top job, yet people who are fuming at our supreme courtâs decision to allow RELIGIOUS objections to interfere with womenâs healthcare here at home, are backing Hamas - a group that still believes in jailing female rape victims???
It just boggles my mind. Women serving in combat roles, gays have served openly in the Israeli military for decades, women can climb as high up the corporate or political ladder as they like in Israel. Hamas still believes in hanging homosexuals in the public square. But Israel is the bad guy?
I guess I will just never understand it, Iâve yet to see a post that can convince me that even the Palestinian people themselves would be better off under Hamas.
umm - ever drop by some of the blogs of the right?
It doesnât seem so much a left right issue as some folks are passionate about the Israel debate like they are for guns, legalizing pot, their thoughts on cops. A very vocal fringe that transcends political lines waits for any chance to talk about their pet issue - which would not be so bad except itâs the precise same argument every single time
