CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — A city official who wanted to include an elderly woman in a photo op about a snow shoveling program persuaded a middle-aged man to dress up in a wig, earrings, lipstick and a dress.
At first I thought that was a picture of Carly Fiorina. I’m not kidding.

The story says “standing next to the mayor” which would imply being the short one on the right, but then says the mayor is Allen Fung, and the person in the middle at the mic sure does not look like Allen Fung. Unless he too was wearing a wig and some pretty serious makeup.

“Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, left, stands with Sue Stenhouse, the former director of senior servicies, and an unidentified man dressed as a woman, during the announcement of a new snow-shoveling program on Jan. 5.” is the caption on the newspaper photo, As usual, TPM goofed since the man is NOT “standing next to the mayor” in the photo, but rather next to the [now-fired] Sue Stenhouse.
The online poll is currently split 50-50 on the question of whether the city official should have been fired.
It’s like a live Onion article. What was the point of getting a guy to impersonate an old person? And why is this a fireable offense? It’s just bizarre.

Yes. This is not the first time I’ve had to try to ponder who the people are or what’s actually supposed to be going on in a picture on TPM that gives no clue.
Somehow some way - that’s fitting!
Somebody thought it would be funny, and other people went along with it.
I bet it’s as simple (and unbelievably idiotic) as that.

All in all, it does seem kind of petty. Not sure who this is supposed to have hurt. Just bad judgement perhaps…and if that’s a crime, we have plenty of that in politics of a much more serious nature. I don’t get it.
