Discussion for article #239734
“providing remarkable service”. Is that why you’re not open on Sundays?
Also, confirm/deny rumors that every kids meal comes with a free GodHatesFags coloring book?
Ten of the 13 committee members attended the meeting on Tuesday, and none of them spoke to defend Chick-fil-A, according to the Post.
I am a middle-aged gay man who never goes to Chick-fil-A. However, I will speak up on their behalf here. All being equal, so long as the business is (will) follow all city ordinances regarding employment non-discrimination, etc., and all other laws, and they have met all requirements to pass muster with building design, conforming to standards within the airport, etc., I see no reason not to grant them the right to open a site there.
I personally find Mr. Cathy’s attitudes toward me repugnant – but in the business realm, so long as all employment, pay wages, non-discrimination laws, local ordinances–all business stuff–is being met, and all else being equal (meaning other entities have had an equal chance at the spot), then there is NO logical or moral reason to turn them down.
Consequences—deal with it. I do wish the owner had kept his stupid mouth shut about his irrational hatreds, because to be honest it’s a pretty good sandwich and I miss eating them. : (
I’ve heard of discrimination issues in employment related to the gay and non-Christians but I don’t have any specifics or anything to cite. And they are franchised so I’m assuming the problems aren’t nationwide.
I appreciate your being able to see this from two different viewpoints, all things considered. And I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. But having a presence in a busy airport is a privilege for a business like this, and the people making that decision might figure they could find somebody just as good whose owners keep their prejudices to themselves.
Years ago–I’m talking probably twenty–there were documented cases of them having a pretty bad record with regards to openly gay employees. Honestly, I do not have any current information, as I’ve not really been as connected to the community as I used to be. If they are still doing what they used to do – even with most big cities’ anti-discrimination ordinances – then I’d say, hell yes, hold off on allowing them to open in such a fantastic location.
It really is a tough one. On the one hand, I know how the asshat uses his profits. On the other hand, I’m also asking for equal treatment across the board. If – and that is a big IF in these people’s case – they truly are following all employment non-discrimination laws to the letter and it can be proved (and I would like that it can be demonstrated, considering their past), then I can’t ask that they be treated any differently than any other equally-fit company.
Now, that said, I would like all you Christianist bakeries and so forth to see how a gay person would even take up for you – IF you treated us all fairly and equally in the business realm. See how that works? – You get to spend your private life and money however you see fit (just like always) but you treat everyone equally with regards to the business services you offer. Thank you.
GOOD!!
No ones needs a bible-thumping, for profit corporation! Fire breathing their superstitions down everyone’s throats!
CfA is bound to become another Domino’s, where the hate filled guy who started them will continue to fight equality while the current board of directors does everything they can to distance themselves from the rich owner so that they can maximize profits.
In a statement to The Denver Channel, Chick-fil-A said the company is "focused on serving great food and providing remarkable service to every single customer."
If that be the case, then Cathy would have kept his mouth SHUT ! – Sorry, not buying it – Politics within a business model has it’s consequence – And now is just one time when they will pay –
KEEP Chick-fil-A OUT ! ---
Mmmmm…Bet that chicken tastes even better now that its secret ingredients (basted in hate and homophobia) are known to the Rightie Cons and Baggers…so upset the next Rightie who tells you they support Chick-fil-A by pointing out that they have been serving cock to men for years at Chick-fil-A. Let him think about that for a moment! rotfl
And most of them don’t fund anti-gay legislation and endorse candidates straight from the bowels of their corporate offices.

So “all things being equal” isn’t what some people think it should mean.
Me too. Occasionally I get an irresistible craving for their waffle fries, but I just tough it out and stick to my boycott. My feeling is that I don’t want a penny of my money going to feed the cause of bigotry.
I’m glad he decided to shut up about his prejudices in public, but I bet corporate money is still going to support anti-gay organizations. In any case, he blew it big time and lost a lot of loyal customers.
Chick-fil-A has given more than $4 million to promote these (and many more) bulls*it and hate filled ideas through their contributions to anti-gay hate groups and they do it in the name of their “loving God.” :
All gay people molest children.
Gay people have sex with animals.
Gay people are condemned to hell and are destroying the earth.
Gay people should be put to death by the government.
"Chick-fil-A : We didn’t invent homophobia; we just endorse and support it."
Yeah, who travels on a Sunday anyway?
Exodus 34:14 “Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.”
Oh Your God. the FUNNY part is that “The Sabbath” is on SATURDAY for Observant Jews.
If they REALLY want to enforce this they need to “Stone to Death” all Pro Football Players then eh?
Normally, I wouldn’t support stalling a business due to the beliefs of the owners, as long as that business follows all the laws of the land. However, since corporations are now people, it seems reasonable to hold them to that standard here too. You wouldn’t rent space in a public facility to a bigot for him to shout his rancid views, so it seems reasonable to restrict that ability for the bigot to fund his views as well. You know, since corporations are people now.
It was their choice to offend a significant part of the population that will be traveling through DIA and judging Denver by what they see in the airport. Most business owners know not to take a stand on a controversial issue that will drive away customers. I agree with the city councilors.
I’m also a middle-aged gay man, and agree with you, BeattyCat.
If a company is obeying all of the relevant labor, health, civil rights, and other laws governing the operation of a fast-food business - and I have seen obviously lgbt people working for this one - then the government’s interest needs to stop there. I don’t like, and have been affected by, what the owner has done with his money, but to me that is still First Amendment activity. I don’t want or need the government protecting me from it, because I don’t know where that protection will stop.
If the restaurant was giving out anti-gay pamphlets or not serving some customers, reducing their limited options, the government would be on stronger footing (as it is with radio or tv). I haven’t seen any of that. This is simply the owner pissing his own money away on his own time for a lost cause. And the government has no right to penalize him for it.
If the business is going to be closed on sundays that means it’s going to be generating 15% less revenue for the airport than any other business with a space, and is either going to have to get a break on its rent, charge even higher prices to customers than the usual airport gougers, or is going to have to pay employees that much less to make up the shortfall.
