Discussion: Citing Single Citizen's Case, Trump Again Calls To 'End The Visa Lottery'

The press release to which Trump linked concerns the case of Mubarak Ahmed Hamed. In 2010, according to the release, Hamed “pleaded guilty to conspiring to illegally transfer more than $1 million to Iraq in violation of federal sanctions, and to obstructing administration of the laws governing tax-exempt charities” during his time as executive director of the Islamic American Relief Agency.

When will the government take Congressionally-mandated sanctions against Russia as seriously?

How about you focus on ending alt-right violence first instead of focusing on the low percentage of violent crimes by immigrants?

Ah yes, let’s use false statistics and cherry pick cases to deflect from the hypocrisy.

Donald Trump’s real estate organization rented New York office space from 1998 to 2003 to an Iranian bank that U.S. authorities have linked to terrorist groups and Iran’s nuclear program…

Bank Melli’s office in the GM Building was listed by the Treasury Department among financial institutions “owned or controlled” by the Iranian government and subject to U.S. economic sanctions, according to the Code of Federal Regulations from the years 1999 through 2003. Trump owned the GM Building from July 1998 until September 2003, New York City property records show. (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists)

Trump has identified the elimination of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program — which offers visas at random to a pool of
migrants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States — as one of his priorities.

Trump and his gang want us to believe that the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is completely random and that winners of the lottery get a free pass into the U.S. That is an absolute lie!

“Winning” the lottery merely guarantees the applicant that his/her application will be considered for a Visa. He/she must still go through the exact same vetting & background checks and must meet all of the financial, educational, and personal prerequisites for entry into the U.S. that apply to any other immigrant from the same country. The process still takes up to 2 or 3 years before a Visa is granted.

The only reason Trump wants to end this program, and indeed to change our other immigrant programs is to reduce the number of non-white, non-European immigrants coming to this country. His proposals are clearly racially driven, and that is shameless.

Abuser-in-chief can’t spend all his time protecting other abusers, you know … sometimes he’s got to do it himself.

Well, they can’t continue calling it “family reunification” because opposing that would conflict with their “family values” scam. It is an explicit statement that the people who profess “family values” do not, in fact, value families. One cannot measure Republican hypocrisy on a linear scale. It is circular – without beginning and without end.

I think anyone convicted of conspiring with Russia to swing the election should have their citizenship closely evaluated. For example, considering all the underhanded dealings Manafort has in the old Soviet Union -often in opposition to US interests - why is he allowed to keep his US citizenship?
