If you’re a nation or thug leader of one who plays footsie with Trump, you can torture and kill any perceived opponent, including American residents, anywhere in the damn world you please without reprisal. Haspel’s presentation doubtless varies from the traditional Presidential briefing.
To commemorate the upcoming disgrace-
Saudi officials initially issued blanket denials of knowledge of Khashoggi’s disappearance or death, but have since admitted that “rogue” agents concocted the scheme and Khashoggi died as a result of a fist fight.
They didn’t “admit” that he died from a fist fight, because that wasn’t true. They “suggested” it, or “tried out the lie that,” perhaps would be a better way to express the thought.
It’s way too late to fix it at this point but I’ve read “fist fight” is a mistranslation of the Arabic word, which connotes more closely a word like “brawl.” It’s no truer, but sounds slightly less absurd that way.

One wonders whether this briefing was unnecessary because the President was live-streaming the murder.
