Discussion: Christie: Trump Has 'Obligation' To Correct Man Who Called Obama A Muslim (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #240688

Has anyone checked him for a fever? I worry when he’s reasonable…

It’s the only attack that’s viable against Trump for the other candidates.

And it might damage Trump but it’s a loser for them.

See? This another example of the establishment candidates not having the guts to call the kettle black.

… Obama is a Muslim

43% of Republicans believe President Obama is a Muslim – about the same percentage who believe Donald Trump’s favorite book is the Bible.

Christie said. “I’d say ‘No, the President’s a Christian and he was born in this country.’ Those two things are self-evident.”

It's entirely understandable a person would want others (if he/she even cared) to identify them correctly with the religion they practice. Having people think you're a Jew when you're a Lutheran might cause problems somehow when interacting with them. There are dozens more examples. However, going all the way back to Obama's election accusations he's secretly a Muslim are couched from the vantage point being a Muslim is in and of itself a bad thing. The concern has never been so much he was hiding his true religion, or had been perpetrating a fraud for all these years. Simply ***being*** (allegedly) a Muslim was the problem. Christie didn't criticize Trump and add "So what if Obama were a Muslim, that's a fine religion to adhere to." Conservatives crow about freedom of religion and freedom to practice the religion you choose. But they very specifically imply there is something wrong with being a Muslim. This seldom gets addressed in these terms. If Obama was a Muslim, so what? Why doesn't a prominent politician say that, and when confronted by the knuckle-dragging crowd say "Hey, remember freedom of religion?"

What was Christie’s obligation when one of the candidates during the debate said that none of them are being investigated but Clinton is?

WooWee! The Jersey Whale is toast in the RepubliKKKlan Party. Later today Alex Jones will reveal that Chris Christie’s campaign has always been a false flag operation run right out of the White House basement. The Tea Potty leaders will chime in, “Damned Yankee’! We always suspected he wuz’! Everbidy’ who has smarts like weuns’ do, knows Obummer IS a Muslim plant sent here to destroy us with health care and gay marryin’!”

I refuse to give anyone, particularly a GOPer, credit for saying something that should be basic goddamn common sense. This isn’t Christie being reasonable. Its Christie being reasonable by comparison. There’s a difference.

Chris is a BIG BULLY in his own RIGHT as much as Donald is a SEXIST. Chris would kiss Obama on cheek in the morning but by nightfall he’d stabbed in the back. He’d close a bridge for days to get even with someone and not CARE about the thousands of people his revenge hurt. Chris Christie WILL NEVER REDEEM himself…EVER.

You wouldn’t let someone get away with that at your town hall meeting?

That’s why you’re losing and Trump is on top. He has correctly identified the Republican base as the racist, ignorant, circus freak/reality show junkies that politicians such as yourself and Fox news/talk radio created and cultivated. He’s more in tune with today’s GOP than you are.

It would be very refreshing if, every once in a while, one of these GOP candidates would point out that if you use the term “Muslim” as a slur, it reflects poorly upon you, not upon the target of your vitriol.

He’s a liar he wouldn’t correct shit except his food order.

I know everybody is looking to get Trump out of the race, but this is a weird one to go after him on (in a republican primary anyhow)

Does he really think that Donald allowing a supporter to call the president a Muslim is really going to be the one that brings Trump down?

I mean, of course the racist should have been corrected, but an odd choice for repub on “repub” attack…

Christie might be a jerk in all kinds of ways personally and as an elected official, and I would never vote for him for any office. However, in this one case, I’m going to defend Christie because he has a record of defending Muslims against typical wingnut bigotry undergirding the whole Obama is a Muslim stuff, which he did when he nominated Sohail Mohammed for a judicial position in New Jersey.

“Sharia law has nothing to do with this at all… it’s crazy… this Sharia law business is crap, it’s crazy… I’m tired of dealing with the crazies.”

I bet none of you can find a single prominent Republican politician who has been as forthright in denouncing anti-Muslim bigotry as Christie did here, and frankly I think it would be difficult to find a prominent Democrat who spoke in front of a microphone so passionately and directly about this horseshit as well.

Christie is saying this because he (my gov. and insulter-in-chief of NJ) wants the presidency so he can finally get some respect for himself.

“Trump has to decide how serious he wants his candidacy to be, Christie said.”

Where do you begin ? First the Guv ran from the embrace of the President charge after Hurricane Sandy, now he’s defending the President.Am I the only one who sees their irony in the Guvs statement ?

I was just about to post that, you beat me to it, good post. I cant’ stand Christie either, but on this subject he is very reasonable. And as you say, a lot of Democrats are less reasonable than him on this. That was an outstanding thing he did, basically called all those Tea Party Nuts what they are, “crazy”. That’s a pretty powerful word for a public statement about people you might need votes from, bravo on that.
