Taking a break from the churn. (I can feel the stress hormones hardening my arteries and calcifying my aortic valve as I write.) But this is droll.

ā€œFour years is a long timeā€¦ā€

But not nearly as long as what Muellerā€™s gonna recommend at the sentencing hearing.

Trump is not going to appreciate speculation that would reduce contributions to his re-election fund, which he can divert to his own private ends. Christie will get straightened out on this.

if tRUmp runs for prez in 2020, letā€™s hope it is for prez of Cell Block D in Leavenworth, his competition will be from a large portion of his cabinet and immediate family if there is any justice

Well isnā€™t that a fun little chew toy of news. Christie presumably had zero reason to speculate about this out of thin air. But he did. Cui bono? If someone wanted him to do it, who was it and why?

From Vanity Fair. Bannon knows best. Christie? Meh.

Steve Bannon told Trump that the risk to his presidency wasnā€™t impeachment, but the 25th Amendmentā€”the provision by which a majority of the Cabinet can vote to remove the president. When Bannon mentioned the 25th Amendment, Trump said, ā€œWhatā€™s that?ā€ According to a source, Bannon has told people he thinks Trump has only a 30 percent chance of making it the full term.

If Trumpā€™s approval rating remains low, it wouldnā€™t surprise me if he chose not to run again. That way he doesnā€™t risk losing, goes out a ā€œwinnerā€ (at least in his own eyes and the eyes of his supporters).

He obviously wonā€™t admit that heā€™s extremely unpopular and ineffective and risks being buried in an electoral landslide and thatā€™s why heā€™s not running again, heā€™ll just claim that heā€™s done what he came to do, that heā€™s drained the swamp, and made America great again. In this scenario, Pence probably carries the banner of Trumpism in the GOP primary, with his chances depending heavily on just how much of a mess Trump has made of things by then.

Et tu, Bluto?

Christo got something going. He donā€™t like being embarrassed by Donald, and he hates that weasel Jared whose dad he put in prison.

Governor Krispy Kreme is clearly gearing up for another run himself. Ahahahahahahaā€¦lotsa luck with that. I truly hope he disappears after he leaves the governorship. Heā€™s a repellent oaf with no ideas to offer anyone. Go get a nice sinecure with some right-wing ā€œthink tank,ā€ Bluto. Donā€™t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

O/T:

One of my friends at work, who is a courtroom clerk and probably the smartest person I know, and I were discussing politics yesterday and she told me that she heard something on NPR that really, really upset her. She said that she heard that when educated people hear Donnie Dumbfuck speak, he sounds like a blathering, mentally ill idiot to them, but that this does not hold true for his supporters. On the contrary, his supporters like that he speaks in small words and repeats himself and they can understand him and that he doesnā€™t talk down to them. My friend said that hearing this made her physically ill.

Iā€™d love to see him hide, but itā€™s probably impossible, given his girth.

Not being terribly ā€œsmallā€ myself, I try to resist the urge to comment on his physical appearance. He should really avoid getting his picture taken at the beach, though.

Heā€™d have all the clout he has now, and none of the responsibility. As a media personality he could write his own ticket. Deep down he canā€™t really be having any fun as President. He thought he would finally be loved, and it turned out to be the worst Christmas ever, because he has to spend all his psychic energy denying to himself that heā€™s widely loathed and sucks at the job. If he wants to leave, and I think thereā€™s reason to believe that, heā€™ll find a way out.

Yup, and the easiest, most face-saving way out, is simply to not run for re-election.

So I think itā€™s quite plausible that he doesnā€™t run again.

I have mixed feelings on that. Obviously removing any risk of him remaining president is a major positive in and of itself.

On the other hand, I would really like to see him get crushed in a landslide ā€“ a complete, direct repudiation of Trump and his policies and his presidency would be the best therapy to help a post-Trump America to begin to recover.

Hey, Christie wound up getting his picture ā€˜above the foldā€™ on TPM and Iā€™m sure other sites and publications ---- maybe itā€™s just as simple as that. What else could he say that anyone would listen to? (Said with some sadness by a Dem who once upon a time thought he might be one of a new - saner - breed of Republicansā€¦)

Soon? Can we hope it will be very soon? One of the few endeavors on which I could honestly wish him success. (Esp since one can still be convicted of crimes committed in the past ā€¦)
