Discussion: Chris Christie Vetoes Bill Lowering Firearm Ammo Limit

Discussion for article #224649

Looks like Christie likes to sing Soprano to a tune written by the NRA.

He called on the legislature to instead focus on addressing mental illness.

OK. Anyone who thinks he needs a 15-round magazine is obviously not quite right in the head. So we need to ban them.

The Republican governor called the measure “reform in name only,” arguing that “[m]ass violence will not end by changing the number of bullets loaded into a gun,” according to the Asbury Park Press. He called on the legislature to instead focus on addressing mental illness.

If (0) zero bullets were loaded into a gun, wouldn’t that reduce mass violence? If so, that would be a math issue and the mental illness would be limited to those not being able to rationalize that.

So what are his proposals for better mental health screening for gun purchases? How much funding did he appropriate for mental health issues?

This man is disgusting in every way possible.
I can hardly wait till they hand down his indictments.
He’s too big a legitimate target to dodge that bullet.

Since Hurricane Windbag (is) was going to ride the militarization of Camden into the GOP arena, like Patton in a jeep, this contravenes his law and order cred on the basic level of public safety.

Sure he will say deaths in Camden are from hand guns but anyone with a brain will be able to build a negative ad off of this.

Great guns, Governor, how do you do stay so relevant?

I always thought that addressing mental illness was speaking to a Tea Party meeting.

I am a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment, just as the framers envisioned. You can have as many flintlock muskets as you wish; you will even be allowed flintlock pistols.

Now gun nutters while cry, “Theirs nothing in the Constitution that says we have to only use period firearms!!!1!!!1!!”

That of course is true. There’s nothing in the Constitution that says you can’t be limited to period firearms either.

Gun victims are trivial to Gov. Weebles.

How many bullets does the 2nd Amendment specify that each gun or person can have?

None specified? Then the answer is none. Right??

Hear, hear!!!

Someone with his facts straight, uncorrupted by the general hysterical meme of some gun-o-phobic groups who literally are shooting in the dark when addressing this issue.

Actually the 2nd Amendment was for militias comprised of citizens (at the time, white males) to put down rebellions against the government. That’s why the NRA doesn’t include that first bit of the 2nd Amendment in their lobby.

You keep saying “meme” when you mean “view widely held in certain quarters.” That’s not what a meme is. And the word “literally” means actually in real life. No “gun-o-phobic” groups are literally shooting in the dark. The word you want is “figuratively.” Ignorant people mistakenly use “literally” as an intensifier. Not that I’m calling you ignorant; God forbid I should make an ad hominem attack when you so helpfully remind us all we shouldn’t. Just sayin’.

About the content—jeeze, who’s got the time? Not me. Today I’m focused on achievable goals. How 'bout you? Got anything constructive planned?

Maybe the GOP/NRA have screwed up here.

I for one would heartily support a requirement that all gun owners undergo an annual proof of sanity checkup (at their own expense) as a condition of continuing to keep their guns.

It is a requirement for cars so why not make it a requirement for gun ownership?

One bad argument after another, this one coming from the new worst GOP Governor in the land.
Why don’t we get back to the disappearance of the Sandy funds? Christie isn’t doing New Jersey any favors with their money and this little nugget means that he’d rather see them die than get help.

I believe that should be assumed to be one ball and wadding into the muzzle, rammed into place. Then a small amount of powder poured into the pan beneath the flint.

Well hell, there goes one item I can’t add to my bucket list.

Christie feels he is clever, when of course he’s too clever by half! He’s doomed anyway, but decisions like this will make him doomed AND unpopular!
