Discussion: Chris Christie: I 'Can't Be Responsible' For Former Allies' BridgeGate Scheme

Discussion for article #236313

Harry Truman once said that “The Buck Stops Here”, by which he meant that he was responsible for whatever happened in his Presidency.

Every GOP politician since Nixon has pretty much said “The Buck…what Buck? I don’t see any Buck? Oh, you mean THAT Buck? No, the guys I appointed to do stuff did that Buck. I can’t be held responsible for something that they did. What am I, their boss? Their keeper?”

Governors are too busy to be responsible for what even the closest people around them do to further their own political interests.

In other words, I guess Christie had too much on his plate to be a true leader.

Christie told Tapper he’d have nothing to say to Kelly if he were to sit down with her today.

“I’d probably more listen than talk,” he said.

I've scoured YouTube but I'll be damned if I can find footage of Christie letting a woman talk that was saying things he didn't want to hear.

If you expand your search to include men, you could double your chances of finding nothing.

Also, he had all the time in the world to hear her side when he fired her. He didn’t WANT to know.

Christie is trying to thread the needle between “accountable” and “responsible”, which is just one step wider than Scalia’s “punishing” versus “punishment” justification of torture. At least more of the letters are different.

Second, your inner circle are not just “some people who wind up in your employ.” Really: “wind up”?

It is your JOB to be responsible for the behavior of your employees, especially when they are acting on your behalf.

In the space of 2 sentences he says he is accountable and that he can’t be responsible. And fucks like Christie dogged Bill Clinton for years, saying that he was slick and had an untrustworthy character. Christie is either a third-rate Nixon or a second rate-Agnew.

Except these were things that were completely in their character, and you missed it.

And that’s the point – Christie hired these people and didn’t see the potential to do this. It’s because he was out of state so much and not involved in actually governing the state.

“I’m trying to act like throwing people under the bus is the end of things but you bastards in the press keep bringing it up!”

Chris, you were the gov. Those guys worked for you. As gov. YOU are responsible. You cannot walk away from this. And it only gets worse if you’re elected POTUS.

Chris, hold yourself to the same standards you hold Obama.

He didn’t know the gun was loaded…

What part of therein lies the rub, do you not understand, guvner?

This is going quite well…no?

He encouraged their actions by his own behavior. I still believe he knew what was going or found out what was going on during the bridge closings and did nothing to stop it. He gave his consent by not doing nothing.

At $300,000+ you can definitely say that again. I saw a break down of just the past 2 years at football games. If he went to every Jets and Giants home game, he was dropping $2000 a game on just food and beverages.

Implied consent…

Will no one rid me of this turbulent politician?
