He really doesn’t have a clue about the national base of his party, does he?

Hmmm, now how can I turn this into a fat joke? Maybe, “He should be sure his beeper is working if he backtracks that fast!”

It seems a bit bizarre that just recognizing that the 14th Amendment says what it says is newsworthy. But given that the leading GOP candidate is loudly pretending it doesn’t, that’s where we are. Yup, it’s Trump’s world now, Christie just happens to live in it.

The New Jersey Republican stopped short of calling for an outright end to the policy, as some of his presidential rivals…[emphasis added.]

Ms. Thompson,

Referring to birthright citizenship as a “policy” in incorrect. I ask you and others in the media to stop. It is a constitutionally protected right enshrined in the Constitution and upheld by the Supreme Court numerous times. It is a right – NOT a policy.

Not allowing gays to serve in the military; not use taxpayer money for abortions; environmental protections – those are policies. It doesn’t matter if you agree with them or not they are policies. So, to equate birthright citizenship with those real policies is demeaning to the whole meaning of citizenship as well as giving the impression that our most prized governing document is somehow subject to prevailing winds of a particular time. We’ve seen what has happened when the Constitution was changed based on particular ideas politicians or activists whipped up the public – it was not pretty. And, ultimately those items (like prohibition) were removed from the Constitution.

Please, you know better. Please refer to this as a right. To do otherwise is to practice sloppy journalism and plays into the hands of those whipping up the current frenzy.

I know you meant to say right.
