Don’t worry, Donald is on the case (Time London)
I notice, he doesn’t mention President Obama ?

New maxim for the ages: Never get involved in a trade war in Asia.
Well Iowa farmers are you pleased with your vote for Trump; is good old Brandstead doing you any good as ambassador; and how the current governor - another Trump supporter!
Honey, that d@mned bull is running wild in the china shop. Again.
China is only counterpunching at this point, Spanky is flailing around like a drunk and accomplishing nothing except reducing demand for products, like pork and soybeans, that directly impact his most staunch supporters. Maybe Spanky will get the message and back off and maybe not. In the meantime, the stock markets are tanking and hopefully making the 0.1% reconsider their support for Spanky. This country already produces too many subsidized agricultural commodities, I am hoping that Spanky’s actions will reduce that permanently and set the stage for a more balanced ag in the future. Right now, hang on, it is going to be a rough ride.
So much winning.
Even if new tariffs on steel and aluminum spark an international trade war, President Donald Trump is confident the United States would come out on top.
“When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win,” Trump tweeted Friday morning. “When we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore – we win big. It’s easy!”

Almost all wars, perhaps all, are trade wars connected with some material interest. They are always disguised as sacred wars, made in the name of God, or civilization or progress. But all of them, or almost all of the wars, have been trade wars. – Eduardo Galeano
So, 14 months in and Trump starts a trade war. Or just plain war. With China. The world’s second or first largest economy depending on how you parse it.
Genius. Only the best words.
Luckily I already have more damned flatscreen televisions than I know what to do with.
And rare earth metals we’ll assume.
We can always appropriate the mines in Africa that contain those. Trump would enjoy killing black people far more than conducting protracted negotiations with yellow ones.
American farmers and their communities are going to take a big hit come harvest time/Midterms this year.
Actually, we have to ramp up production at the Mountain Pass mine in California. It produced the bulk of the global supply of REEs in the 1950s and 60s. Oh, wait, the Trump administration sold it to the Chinese for extra cheap due to the radioactivity problem. BTW: TPM has an excellent long piece on the mine.
Sad to say, I’m afraid the only way we drum Trump out of office is if our economy goes down the craphole, and the GOP turns on him.
Regardless how Republicans in Congress may feel about an economy in the crapper, it’s the electorate that will matter. And Republicans and conservatives would be fine sleeping under a bridge so long as black and brown people had to lie starving in the gutter. Trump is safe as long as he continues the bigotry, racism, xenophobia and rank hatred he spews. That’s what his base wants more than anything.
How about pig meat, or soybeans ? Only thing you can still get on the cheap are Trump ties and Ivankadonk shoes…
Fortunately I’m in a position I don’t give a damn if everything I buy goes up 25%, it won’t affect my lifestyle or buying decisions a whit. Now, it will suck for a lot of other people, and for that we should all be concerned.
I agree, and I’m in the same position. The people I know that were in business with Trump before, and are in business now with the Kushner Klan (through the coincidence of having a lease on space in one of the properties he owns) also agree. It seems at times that I’m paying to help put Trump further into a box he can’t get out of, as he blunders and escalates from one ego patch to the next. The wheels are gonna have to come off sooner or later.
Well, at least we are not throwing missiles back and forth, YET
