A few less pig farms in this country would be a good thing and they are getting what they voted for, so TS folks.
I think China owns Smithfield (pretty large U.S. pork producer/provider). Does this mean they are placing tariffs on products they are sending to themselves?
“We are curious about what the U.S. side really wants,” said Tu, “and wonder whether the United States can tolerate the consequences.”
So are we, comrade. So are we.
Agreements about trade and tariffs are exceedingly specific, technical, and complex. They take years to negotiate and iron out. One of the grimly hilarious features of the last election was the grandiose, troll-stimulated excitement about TPP and its awfulness on the part of self-styled lefties who think that anti-dumping laws are about letting your girlfriend down gently. Funny how that hysteria suddenly abated after the election. Then into this regulatory china shop comes a demented elephant, Trump. Stand by for a giant, very costly mess.
Mike Pence agrees that mistreating American fruits is long overdue.
It’s interesting how carefully the chinese have calibrated their statement, implicitly separating “the US Side”, i.e. the trump regime holding the reins of government, from “the United States”, i.e. the people of the country.
Only if mother is not in the room. In her presence he tries to keep up an image.
Yes, the question of trade got completely distorted by the time the 2016 elections got underway. Economic nationalism and scapegoating drowned out any attempts at rational discussion.
And I read yesterday that Senator Elizabeth Warren, who domagogued hard against the TPP, was in China over the weekend and gave statements in support of tariffs.
I saw a bullweenkie pit bull dachshund cross puppy yesterday. Lots of attitude and short legs. Smart little feller. Not like Donnie at all; who seems to have done the nasty to his aggie, meat packer, trucker and dock worker supporters, without the usual choice of decorator color lubes. Starting a trade war with a nation that already holds the advantage of a huge trade deficit takes a very special kind of stoopid. Donnie delivers in spades.
If I wheel my lawn mower out of my garage and into your’s so you can fix it…you did not steal the knowledge you learned about that mower. When Apple goes to China it teaches them American know how. Sure the heist a bunch of intellectual property from us but we also handled a bundles of it to them so we could save a few bucks. Now we miss the bucks.
For those agricultural states this must be like dating some fun, wild person until the morning you wake up and your car is wrecked, your bank account emptied, your family has disowned you and you know, you know perfectly well, that you saw it coming from the beginning and said what the hell.
Some one, I can’t remember who or where, recently did an interview of Nebraska hog ranchers and they were a bit conflicted. Nebraska’s hog belt went 80 % for Trump but now they’re concerned. Loss in the China markets is a big deal for them.
The Chinese should limit their tariffs to products from Iowa, specially whatever Steve King’s district produces.
I wonder what all the farmers who voted for Trump think now? Or is this Obama’s fault, maybe?
Screw you, Iowa!
we need a cross-post of @ralph_vonholst’s beautiful screed from the other thread.
It was a bigly posting HOF candidate.
nice day in the market. Nawt!
I wonder when one of the wall street swamp creatures will pull dotard aside and slap him around a bit metaphorically speaking.
