As usual, AP only gives part of the story.
China should plan to take Taiwan by force after Trump call, state media says.
Global Times says Beijing should āpunish militarilyā any moves to undermine One China policy ā which US president-elect has said he might not uphold.
Oh, heās treating our China policy like a businessman. Sure, fine, OKā¦
ā¦You DO know how many times heās FAILED as a businessman, yes?
itās only a ābargaining chipā if the other party thinks itās of some valueā¦
They could not take this more seriously. Heās playing with fire here. Itās the most alarming thing heās done so far.
When you take a position they will never accept to begin a negotiation with another real estate developer, contractor, city zoning board, and such, they typically donāt have an army, weapons, nukes, one of the worldās biggest economies, or the willingness to go to war to reclaim part of their country as their opening reply.
Chinese political observers on Sunday said they expected Beijingās response to change once Trump is inaugurated next week.
IMO, this is a bad idea to go by. Rumpās insane klown posse genuinely believes the sh*t theyāre pushing out there. And again, itās not so much Rump as itās his true believers who have no problems telling China āscrew 'em.ā What you see now, is what weāre getting in the future regarding the Pac Rim.
Iām sure our Russian allies will contribute mightily to the war effort. Just as soon as we get that oil flowing.
And people think the press will go after him after he tosses them out of the WH press room, etc. TV news, forget about it, corporate owned, they wonāt fight shit. It will have to get really bad for them before reporters are even allowed by the corporate owners to remember what the 1st amendment says. In fact that doesnāt even matter:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.[1]
Seeing that he believes he is above the law anyway and it clearly states that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of the press, heās all good to go with totalitarian propaganda news.
Sorry to be Debbie Downer, I havenāt given up all hope, but Iāll believe it when I see it if the press decides to grow some balls.
Can anybody tell me what this sentence is trying to say? China is refusing to push for positive cooperation?
āSo far, Beijing has reiterated its refusal to negotiate on Taiwan and to push for positive cooperation between the two sides,ā
Trump meets Sun Tsu. Heās losing and he doesnāt even know it yet.
If Trump thinks heās engaged.in some half-assed real estate negotiation heāll be very rudely surprised.
No, the negative only holds for the first clause. They want for us to stick with the Paris climate agreement and continue talks over trade liberalization and (if we behave) North Korea. Taiwan is absolutely off the table, as are all other parts of an āinseparableā China (Xizang (Tibet), Xinjiang, Xianggang (Hong Kong)).
@valgalky23 Reporters can be NASTY if you try to move them from the seat theyāve earned working their way up. Think Helen Thomas, but a whole room full of them. They take all that minutiae as gospel and if you try to ignore or dismiss it theyāll come for you with a pickaxe.
Sorry to be Debbie Downer, I havenāt given up all hope, but Iāll believe it when I see it if the press decides to grow some balls.
While I certainly understand where youāre coming from, the Press does have an established hierarchy and a set of norms that need to be followed. They control DC to a large extent. Ramping up hostilities with them only ensures that the hornets nest will attack at some point. And wont stop on command.
Trumpee spent the campaign complaining that China was unfairly devaluing itās currency, when in fact the Bank of China spent $500B in foreign currency reserves last year to prop it up. He complained that China would get an unfair advantage as a result of TPP, when they werenāt even part of it, and are happy to see it scuttled. He hasnāt the slightest clue as to how to deal with China. They will run circles around him.
Yeah this is Nixon on steroids and by demonizing the press Nixon brought it on himself.
The press hasnāt changed that much since then. They know they are in the constitution and they take the idea of a free press very seriously. Sometimes when the reporting isnāt what we want that doesnāt mean they arenāt doing their job. It often means they are doing their way not ours.
Donāt turn your backs on the 4th estate just yet, folks. This is all just getting started
No kidding. If the Press thinks it can get its ratings by smearing Trump theyāll do it in a heart beat.
Yes and I think they know and the Democrats in Congress know that the public is with them not with Trump. Heās in the most vulnerable position I have ever seen an incoming president in. Iāve never seen anything like members of Congress publicly saying the new president isnāt legitimate.
Itās astounding historically and itās awesome.
Beijing has consistently hoped that the KMT will eventually merge with the CCP, which is the true essence of the idea of āone china.ā Although China views Taiwan as an inseparable part, it has never been a formal part of the PRC, unlike Xinjiang, Tibet, or Hong Kong. I know you are getting at Chinaās view on the matter and not the de facto relationship, but China strategically would want to use military force as a last option as it would level the economy of one of PRCās top trading partner and one of the biggest economies in the world, which would render the whole event moot.
I donāt think āsmearingā is the right word. It implies an unfair criticism. All the press needs to do in the case of Trump is dig up the truth and be reasonably fearless about printing it in plain language. Call a lie a lie, call a con job a con job, etc.
I agree but itās fine by me if they smear him around some too.
