Discussion: Chicago Police Deny Advising Trump to Cancel Event

35% of the republican electorate and the rest are just plain old stupid. His negatives among republicans is larger than his positives. The republican party is shitting in its pants. They know they lose the election for sure if he’s the nominee. I have a secret - they lose the election no matter what.

Sadly, calling the Chicago Police liars is playing the strong side of the bet.

I’ll go with option #2.

Professor I agree with your assessment 100%. Trump is a garden variety, loudmouth bully. He can “talk the talk” at the podium, but he can’t “walk the walk”. At the first sign of any “real” trouble, for example an ol’ fashion ass-kickin, beat down, he will scamper off like a frightened rabbit. He’s managed to rile up a large group of mob-like supporters and he can’t control their actions or the inevitable outcome. He’s basically on the run, trying to figure out how to save face. He’s experiencing a sample of what’s to come during the general election, otherwise known as the “buzz saw”.

So Trump alludes to attacking protesters in his morning rally, then somehow in at his next rally, where one can get kicked out of a Trump event for wearing a anti-Trump shirt or at least getting approached by security for just being dark, somehow all these yelling protestors where just let in right before they announce the event was canceled?

Oh yeah, it’s gonna “get real” during the general election. So far, the GOP leaders/candidates, along with the gullible media, have handled “The Donald” with kid gloves. I guarantee you that won’t happen during the general election. It’s already starting. Trump will be called out and challenged on everything. He will be under a microscope, and there will be no place to run (pun intended) or hide.

I’m calling it. By the end of the weekend “militias”, open carry supporters, and other armed individuals, will be “protecting” Trumps ‘free speech rights’ with their “second amendment” rights at his rallies. And follow him around to ‘protect’ their rights against ‘provocateurs’.

I’m beside myself. Positively verklempt. But not surprised.

So how does Trump now deal with the fact that wherever he shows up, he can’t be sure he won’t encounter hundreds, or even thousands, of protesters inside and outside his rallies?

He can’t really do much about outside, unless he can get the cops to play ball and try to force people into “free speech zones” well away from the entrances and exits to the venues. Maybe he can find some right-wing jurisdictions that will play Praetorian Guard for him, but that would severely restrict where he could appear. For the most part, he’s just going to have to deal with the fact that there will be protesters.

As far as protesters getting inside the venue and disrupting his speech, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump uses this as an excuse to start charging admission for his rallies – selling tickets in advance like any other performance (which is what he is, a performer…of an obscene political burlesque, of course). That way protesters would be put in the awkward position of paying the person they’re protesting, and presumably that would keep the numbers of protesters down to a symbolic few, not the huge presence the protesters had inside the venue tonight. Plus I bet a pretty good percentage of the Trump fanatics would happily plunk down $20 or $30 to get in, and even if the crowd sizes went down a bit, they’d start producing revenue, and at the very least offsetting the costs. Trump’s grifter insticts might make that a rather attractive option. Just thinking out loud here, I have no idea what he’ll actually do (which is a disclaimer that every pundit should be required to include at the end of any commentary about what Trump might do!)

Is there a specialty manufacturer of brown shirts that I can buy stock in?

First: The cops can’t “play ball.” There isn’t a police chief in America that doesn’t know he’s under scrutiny.

Second: There isn’t a police force in America that will subjugate their safety to “pull muscle” and put down shit like this. Let’s remember that they are outgunned and, basically, at the mercy of a bunch of hot-headed, armed-to-the-teeth 2nd Amendment yahoos.

So let’s take a moment to thank Drumpf.

So basically Trump’s complaint is that his First Amendment rights have been stifled because he had to cancel his rally because his own supporters are too immature and belligerent to be trusted to refrain from violence and simply let security and law enforcement folks cope with non-violent protesters.

At some point you’d think all these little lies would add up to a big lie. But the hits keep coming.

Oh this old saw won’t cut… But Trump will try…

He can blow that smoke the up the asses of the unknowing masses that follow him but there’s absolutely no case of protestors or any other citizens abridging Trump’s or anyone’s free speech. The “government” can’t do it, but the citizenry can.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

double post sorry…

In the meantime, the protesters had succeeded in their goal for the evening. As one, Violet Ornelas, 28, gleefully told the Guardian: “If he can’t even handle Chicago, what makes him think he could handle Isis?”

It isn’t just that the rally was scheduled to be held in a university arena. UIC is one of the most ethnically diverse campuses in the Chicago area. A Chicago reporter who was interviewed said rally attendees were not overwhelmingly Trump supporters as is the typical pattern. I was initially inclined to think that the protest was a good sign that voters would turn out to vote against Trump should he be nominated. But now, I think you may be right. At this point, my hope is that some Trump supporters will be disappointed in him for canceling - and the protesters will be regarded as stronger than Trump.

In all truth: I won’t know what to think until Ann Coulter, Mary Matalin, KKKarl Rove and, of course, Joe and Mika weigh in. I could be wrong at any time.
