When did Assange have anything to do with journalism?
Chelsea Manning said on Sunday that the prosecution of Julian Assange shows the Trump administration “clearly wants to go after journalists.”
While it’s obvious, even to those in a permanent vegetative state, that Trump "wants to go after journalists”…
Julian Assange is a journalist like Jeffrey Dahmer was a nutritionist.
I don’t believe for a moment that the tRump maladministration wants to go after Julian Assange. I believe there was an order for extradition as part of chargeable offenses towards Assange long before tRump came into office, and those still have some teeth or have to be honored due to the work involved in the case. If you ask me, that’s a good thing. I think if tRump has his druthers (which is highly mercurial), and Barr has anything to do with any of the Assange extradition matter, it will be to figure out a way to let go of the matter altogether and pretend he never happened. They may even declare him a national hero somehow. They benefitted from Assange’s subversiveness and that will be his reward.
The Jacobinite “left” takes time out on its war against the Democratic Party to finally send some of its fire Trump’s way … and it’s to defend the rabidly anti-American Assange. As always, I just can’t understand why so many voters reject these people. They only have America’s best interests at heart, after all. They attack the Democratic Party to make it better. Really, they do. Just ask them.

Manning says in that clip “The average American commits 3 felonies a day.”
I suppose that’s referring to online activity, but you can’t really say something like that without backing it up with more info. Maybe it’s in the full interview, I didn’t watch that, but it’s an outrageous statement to just throw out there. Over-hyping doesn’t lend credence to the case you’re making.
At this point, Assange is an annoying embarrassment for Trump. He has nothing to contribute, but plenty of secrets to tell.
In Russia, Assange would probably have already “hung himself” in prison. Maybe Trump can work out a prisoner swap with Vlad, and then Vlad will take care of the rest.

These folks are frustrating AF. Assange acted as a cutout for the Russians, people working with Trump had contact with him. This isn’t where you make a stand on press freedom. Plus, why is a trans woman implicitly defending Russian information operations given their awful record on LGBTQ rights? Same question re: Glen Greenwald. Are they just stupid?

Just guessing here because I’m not a member of that community, but maybe LGBTQ folks feel enough like outsiders from society at large, that they feel the need to “speak truth to power” as they see it, even when it involves the side of the political spectrum that supports them. Again, I have no special insight here, just looking from the outside.
Also, Manning appears to be something of an attention seeker (almost used a different word there). No idea what her plans are, but keeping a high media profile is always a good idea if you’re aiming for TV commentator or running for office.
Chelsea Manning needs to join Sarah Palin somewhere in Southeast Oblivion without a cellphone connection.
Folk can attack Manning all they want but I’m more concerned about scum like Elliot Abrams having a platform—if you want to talk about people that should have been locked up who have reappeared.
If Manning is such small fry, what’s the point of worrying about it?
