Discussion: Charlotte Police Release Video Of Fatal Shooting Of Keith Lamont Scott

Sure it is, it’s called WBWB – Walking Backwards While Black.

This is so disturbing. He is walking backwards, away from the car, in a completely non-threatening manner when he was shot. I don’t see anything in his hands, they look to be loosely held at his side. But, if that is truly a holster on his leg, I would not be surprised if he did have a gun. Perhaps he dropped it in the car before exiting. I don’t really have a lot of confidence we are getting the whole story yet.

Exactly. Where was the threat in that moment? Unbelievable.

There was no threat. Even if he had a gun, he still wasn’t a threat. You are hiding behind a car, if he raises the gun, then shoot him.

It has nothing to do with being black. White people are shot like this all the time. It has to do with certain police officers that look to shoot first and ask questions later.

That’s precisely WHY they HAD TO gin things up by adding marijuana to the evidence today. There was not a word said about marijuana until today.

Even then, they don’t have to shoot to kill. They can shoot to maim or disarm.

Ok, dumb question. Why not shoot to wound, rather than a fusillade of bullets?
Shoot me in the calf, and I’ll drop quicker than Ted Cruz at Donnie’s zipper.

Maybe his sudden, urgent request for a “ham sandwich” was deemed an irrelevant distraction?

My understanding is cops are trained to shoot at “center mass,” basically the torso. I assume there are two reasons for that: (1) It just ain’t that easy to hit an arm or leg or hand with any accuracy with a handgun, especially if the person is in motion – file that one under “life just isn’t like TV, where you can shoot a gun out of someone’s hand” and (2) They’re not supposed to be shooting in the first place unless the person poses an imminent risk of death or serious injury to the officer or other people, and if they are, the argument would be that the priority is stopping them from doing that harm, thus, you don’t want to miss. Which would be fine if they really confined their use of firearms to cases where people truly were posing an immediate deadly risk to the cops or other people.

At the rate Charlotte PD is going, they’ll have him on the grassy knoll in Dallas, and the chief trader in ENRON stock before tomorrow morning…

Well stated, and not arguing, but a Taser could work just as well. It wasn’t one cop in a dark alley, it was multiple cops in a sunny parking lot…

Always with the marijuana. FFS, what if he had a beer with him? Also grounds to shoot? Deplorable!!!

Yes, I agree…not defending these cops’ actions, just answering your question about why they don’t aim for arms or legs.

Why don’t we ever hear or see these incidents of white people shot like this all the time?

We’re cool, it just frustrates the hell out of me. If he just got done robbing a 7-11 at gunpoint, whole different story. But a dude sitting in a car in a parking lot? What was the original reason fro CPD even approaching him? Again, not hassling you, just perplexed…

I have watched this standing up right in front of my 65 inch TV. I cannot see anything in either hand, he is walking backwards and all of a sudden they fill him full of bullets. What about one bullet and not a barrage of bullets. Perhaps he would be alive. I may have missed it but why did the police come at all. Why were they called. What was he doing. He was sitting in his fricking car and apparently not doing anything but rolling a joint??

I suspect (and hope!) the “sarcasm tag” was missing from the original post. Let’s see if you get a response from justamarine…and, for the record, this man’s death had everything to do with his having a skin tone deemed too dark. We need better police officers.

I didn’t see your post above mine. Yes, why were the police called at all. If his wife was close by, did he live in the neighborhood. What was the purpose of the call.

Trademark that puppy…
