NC GOP:
NOPE - We cheated fair and square ⌠the seat is ours ⌠possession is 9/10s of the law ⌠people say our guy won ⌠it was a wonderful election âŚ
The problem with a new election is that Harris seems to have cheated in the primary as well. The new race should be Pettinger vs. Mcready, with Harris excluded.
Was a close race, should just go to the Dem, who likely won if it was not for all the fraud. Itâs all BS anyways since the only reason Repugs have as many seats as they do in NC is due to gerry mandering.
Local TV stations should follow suit. Think of all the political ad money they could rake in!
Republicans have a choice here. They can try to hold a seat in Congress based on an uncertified and uncertifiable election result, so as to be in slightly smaller minority, and simultaneously show themselves to be total hypocrites on election security. Or they can call for a new election, probably lose because their side cheated (whether the candidate knew about it or not â probably did but rationalized it) and voters hate that. But at least they wonât be hypocrites.
Hmm. I wonder which one they will choose? My guess is they will argue that any fraud is speculative and didnât change the outcome, and that this just proves how much fraud the Ds promote. In other words, they go full Trump.
While it doesnât affect the article in any way, for editorial purposes be aware that the Observer is no longer headquartered in that building (which was torn down in 2016).
My concern is that they will rally behind Harris, claiming he was cheated. The effect on the makeup of Congress will be negligible, of course, but theyâll try to turn him into a martyr, and turn this into a story of Democrats wanting a do-over whenever they âloseâ and use it as a point to rally their base for future NC elections.
Why is it that when rich people cheat or steal, the only penalty they get is to have to promise to do things honestly the next time.
No matterâŚthere is no way they can sit Harris right now with the election tampering. None.
I am also flabbergasted to learn that it is Pastor Mark Harris and that he is a leader in the Baptist Church. I donât believe God wants you to cheat to win. Even a pastor canât convince me of that.
After all of the disturbing and disgusting things I have seen come from too many self-styled so-called âChristiansâ on the right over the past years (particularly the past 2 years) I am not in the least flabbergasted or surprised.
The Democrats should be having investigators or statisticians reviewing the anomalies, and estimating how many votes were negated by this. If it was more than the current margin (it could be much more), then the Democrat should sue to be named the winner. Cheaters shouldnât get do-overs.
Heâs from the super-conservative wing of the SBC. And well, thereâs a history of political power grabs and manipulation there. Theologian/historian Diana Butler Bass had a nice twitter thread about it here:
This doesnât apply to everyone in the SBC, or every pastor or leader, but I wouldnât be surprised by the possibility.
And of course we realize that the âanythingâ in this case includes violating each and any of the Ten Commandments.
Yep. Thatâs exactly what the state GOP is saying.
It could shake out like that, but thereâs just as much of a chance that suburban Charlotte voters hearing about this will be more inclined to think of Republicans as corrupt, and that the rural Black and Lumbee communities where votes were stolen will become more mobilized.
Throughout the state the fight (to the extent there is a fight over anything except gerrymandering) is over suburban and exurban voters, among whom fraud like this is never a good look.

There should be no new election. It would obviously be unfair to burden the other candidates with the costs of a do-over that is not their fault. The solution is to disqualify Harris and declare most successful candidate left standing the winner.
-
On no account should Dems seat any GOP âwinnerâ of the NC9 election until the integrity of the processâincluding any GOP victory in any new electionâhas been fully and transparently verified. The verification process should take as long as it needs, even two years, because the scale of the election cheating is monumental and implicates the NC GOP (see below).
-
I would go so far as to say that the verification process should cover the entire NC elections. It follows that Heyer should not seat any NC GOP member until the verification process is complete.
I choose Choice 3, the one where the Republican candidate is disqualified for cheating and the Dem is given the seat. If the situation were reversed you think Repubs would simply call for a âdo overâ?
Evangelicals. Any type of cheating can be forgiven if you repent your sinning ways and embrace jesus as your own personal savior. One of the reasons the religion is so popular: you can do whatever you want so long as youâre willing to do the song and dance when caught.
Hey, you gotta remember that âThe Ends Justify Being MeanââŚ
