Discussion: Charles Koch: We're Like The Civil Rights Movement

Discussion for article #239012

What you are are fraudsters, rip off artists, and haters of democracy. Stop deluding yourselves and realize that you take the bread out of peopleā€™s mouths and hoard it all for yourself. At the same time, youā€™re busy condemning billions of people to death through climate change, poverty, starvation and toxic environments.

It is utterly amazing that he could say that with a straight face - as he and his brother bankroll politicians who strive to eliminate the right to vote, get a public education, receive healthcare, or work for anything but slave-level wages.

aims to spend $889 millionā€¦ to demonstrate that a free society gives them the best opportunity

What a load. A ā€œfree societyā€ doesnā€™t need fascist PR, they self advertiseā€¦that beacon on a hill thing.

Did you know the ā€œupā€ is ā€œdown,ā€ ā€œblackā€ is ā€œwhite,ā€ ā€œhotā€ is ā€œcoldā€ and ā€œKochā€ is ā€œhonest.ā€

I donā€™t wish death on anyone, but if by some chance, there is a God, and he should call these two miscreants unto ā€œAbrahamā€™s bossomā€, I will not necessarily repent of my non-belief, but I will at least give the ā€œNon Nobisā€ another read over.

All of these struck a moral chord with the American people. They all sought to overcome an injustice. And we, too, are seeking to right injustices that are holding our country back.ā€

I wonder what ā€˜moral chordā€™ mr. Koch thinks he can hit with the American people.

Paying tax is not an injusticeā€¦

But look at the suffering it has called this multi-billionaire. It caused him toā€¦well, it caused him to obsess over how much more he might have had. Being in the top 10 of the welathiest men alive sucks, he wants to be #1, otherwise he is the real victim here.

TPM actually left out the best bit from the WaPo article - he also called on businesses to reject corporate welfare. You canā€™t make this shit up.

Those movements ā€œstruck a moral chord with the American peopleā€ because they were fighting for the weak, the disenfranchised, the under represented - not for a bunch of fat cat billionaire assholes looking to weaken labor and environmental laws and further pad the pockets of the already obscenely wealthy.

For all their money, the Koch brothers sure canā€™t seem to buy a clue.

I wish he would explain exactly what ā€œholding our country backā€ means.

Because being a millionaire is EXACTLY LIKE not being able to vote and apartheid. More faux White suffering.

"If we cannot unite the majority of Americans behind the vision, then weā€™re done for,ā€ Koch said. ā€œSo that, to me, has to be our number one objective. But to do so, weā€™ve got to do a much better job of understanding what matters most to people and then to demonstrate that a free society gives them the best opportunity of achieving that.ā€

OK, letā€™s see what matters most to people:

Equal access to vote
Equal access to a living wage
Equal access to proper medical care
Equal access to full education

What doesnā€™t matter at all to people:

Continued unfounded attacks on Planned Parenthood
Continued attempts to overturn the Affordable Care Act
Continued attempts to remove citizens from the voting rolls
Continued massive income equality
Continued manufactured outrage against the President of the US, including birther, race and other claims

I bet posters here could add to either category.

Well, his companies are being held back. No strip mining in some places, all those pesky environmental regs, there are national parks (socialism!!!) that arenā€™t accessible to them to make even more money fromā€¦

If they actually thought that they were part of the Civil Rights movement, they would have denounced their father for being part of the John Birch society which opposed Civil Rights and wouldnā€™t have invited Charles Murray to make remarks at one of their dinners when he was one of the authors of a book that claimed Blacks and Hispanics were dumber than Whites and Asians.

ā€œEssentially, 1, anything that prevents me from greater wealth, 2, anything that helps the middle class or the poor, and 3, there is a black man in the White House!ā€
