He’s right, they should. But they’re not gonna, not in a million years. They don’t want to piss off their homophobic core support.

The NCAA makes it’s decisions by consulting Nancy Reagan’s astrologer.

Right now, having the event in Indiana might just be a good thing otherwise there wouldn’t be as much national exposure to what’s happening there.
There will be protests, no doubt, and reports and Pence and his crew won’t get to just silently sneak this in.
Pence has entered the Christie degree of shame and will have to fly outside of his own state to seek approval.

meangrean,

Don’t be fooled by the fool Barkley, He’s in the majority with his comments,

I dont think this is true. He was against republicans/conservative when it was fashionable to be in with them. He did speak out against them earlier as well. I think it was at the same time when he wanted to run for governor of his state (Alabama?).

They’re not going to do it because it’s a logistical nightmare. They’d have to find another city with the arena size and availability, the hotel capacity and availability that didn’t have another major event going on next weekend and the following weekend. They’d also have to refund all those tickets for which people paid $100s or $1,000s, not to mention all the money fans would lose from airline tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, etc. And then there’s the issue of security. If they were to get lucky enough to find a city and arena available for the next two weekends, the NCAA and local law enforcement would have to quickly devise a security plan to protect the city and venue. Plus, there’s all the vendors and all the other activities involved. I’m sure if it were possible the NCAA would move to another city. It’s just not feasible and I think that’s exactly why the IN legislature sent this bill to the Pence when they did. They knew there was nothing the NCAA could do about it.

Exactly. There’s not enough time to pull an event like that, with all of its ramifications and all of the money innocent people have spent and invested. There would be endless lawsuits.

With a little more lead time, I think the NCAA would pull the Final Four out of Indiana. Salesforce, Apple…they’ve started the ball rolling. Indiana will eventually change this hateful law under financial pressure from outside groups. It’s just going to take a little time.

For example, the NCAA wouldn’t be picking Indiana for NEXT year’s Final Four at this point in time–and all because of this legislation.

We need to start a boycott of watching the Final Four. Let the sponsors know that people won’t be watching.

A check in the plus column for an otherwise manly conservative.

Yeah Yeah Yeah! Bring the Final Four on down Louisville’s YUM! Center! We’re just two hours down the road, a fantastic facility! Yes! Do! It!
We’ll gladly take your business Governor Pence!

Chas only dumped Republicans after “they went crazy”. He’s still a supply sider which is arguably more absurd than astroturf opposition.

I think people also need to pay mind to the HIV epidemic which Governor Pence just declared and his belated acquiescence to allowing a clean needle program for 30 days because of a “public health” imperative. His long standing refusal to have a clean needle program, which is totally religious and ideology based, is what allowed the epidemic to erupt. Another instance of science denial, like the whole vaccine choice issue where the GOP and its front runners grandstand and end up causing harm where a public health imperative has always existed.

I’ve let Apple know that pulling advertising during games played in Indiana would send a powerful message to the NCAA about their future venues. Money talks for the NCAA and nothing else.
