I really hope the backfires and that many of the people it effects turn out to be elderly, white rural voters, who mostly don’t have passports and/or copies of their birth certificate lying around.
Oddly enough, the demo they are mostly targeting will probably be okay and might be inspired to vote because of this and to vote against Trump. I imagine naturalized citizens will have their papers and people that weren’t citizens were not likely to turn out in the first place.
ETA: I don’t want anyone to be disenfranchised, whether they agree with me or not, just think it would be funny if it turned out to hurt them.
What does Kobach thinks about this?
“Mission Accomplished.” with that smarmy smirk of his.
Are you in this photo? No? Well, then get the hell out of my polling place!!
Hmmm…funny how the Constitution-worshipping Republican Cult doesn’t mind walking all over that “The right to vote shall not be denied or abridged.” element of the 15th Amendment, huh? They are soooo’ good at lip service and cherry picking elements of that document, it would look like Swiss cheese if you remove the parts they blithely skip over.
One day the people are simply going to explode, and heads are going to roll.
Republicans are despicable creatures … but I’m repeating myself here.
If Ted Cruz lived in KS would he make the cut as he has a Canadian birth certificate?
I am a legally-trained professional, with decades of experience in arcane court procedure, and I cannot figure out what is happening here.
Is it worse than trying to figure out Sovereign Citizen kookery?
I really think if the younger group knew their registrations were on hold, they would get the required documents. They are young enough to be able to retrieve the documents.
I would be willing to bet that they do NOT know their registrations are on hold. The asshole in the picture does NOT want them to vote because they would vote his ass OUT, and he knows it.
We need to get the word out to all people in Kansas to check your voter registration and do what is need to ensure you can vote in the primary and general election.
Ok Loretta Lynch, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU???
“Republican” and “Despicable”. Redundant.
Come on Federal Gov’t, this is why your power supersedes the states. The voting rights act worked and allowed the people that are being disenfranchised now to vote.
This is why ultra-conservative and bad interpretist of the constitution, John Roberts, reversed the law. Without some hackish judicial activism, the equal right for all to vote would still be a cornerstone of the America way.
Instead we have the dark version of America that the minority in power clings to.
Kind of ironic that Roberts et al, are the dark minority, is it not.
That is exactly why ALL fixes to the VRA are on hold within the REPUG controlled congress.
What do you want her to do, ride in on a unicorn in her shining armor and slay him in single combat? The DoJ has been in court on this in Kansas for weeks.
That is exactly what I was thinking. We’ve just GOT to get a Dem majority Senate to get the VRA back on track.
EDIT TO ADD: This is what some of us were worrying about back in '13: that there would have to be massive problems with the next few election cycles in order to prove in court that the conditions of VRA needed to be reinstated. But by then, it would be too late.
The current Republican Party wants to rescind all Constitutional Amendments after the 12th and go back to the halcyon days of the 1840’s and the Antebellum South.
“— Younger citizens were affected the most. Although those between the ages of 18 and 29 comprise only 14.9 percent of registered Kansas voters, that age group makes up more than 58 percent of applicants who registered at motor vehicle offices and are on the suspense list.”
there’s the beef…
In terms of accomplishing the OPPOSITE of what they are tasked with, they couldn’t have been more effective, even if they had deliberately planned to discourage young, new voters from participating in the democratic process… oh, wait…
It was no fine line between voter protection and voter suppression, it is a chasm they leapt at will, and if they think the future won’t look back with harsh scrutiny at the anti-voter havoc they wreaked on the democratic process, they are just wrong.
But, then, gather all those co-conspiring SOS’s and agents like Co-Conspirator A up top, and their club name might be Hubris.
In that rarefied uber-ego-ether, they may not be capable of even perceiving some higher authority exists to make them account for it.
How right you are. And, of course, the MSM was MIA on this. Earlier fascists used rallies at 2 AM. These folks use Chuck Todd in a pastel-coloured studio practicing stenography.
