American voters should get $2,500 in value from their Congressweasels.

Hell, I’d settle for $25 worth.

Not happening…

Maybe members of Congress should just stop getting that new iPhone so they can invest in housing instead.

As one of your employers, Mr. Chaffetz, may I just say. Bwah ha ha ha ha!!! Oh wait, you were serious? Yeah… NO.

Fine. The $2500 will not be counted as income. If you buy a home and use the stipend you must agree to forgo declaring the interest deduction on your taxes. You must turn over any capital gains on the sale of the home to the Treasury, plus sufficient funds to pay back the monthly $2500 stipend during residency. You cannot maintain possession of the home once out of office unless you buy it from the government at fair market value, minus any down payment you made out of pocket upon initially buying it.

he “flat-out cannot afford a mortgage in Utah, kids in college and a second place here in Washington, D.C.”

Silly me, when I saw the headline I though he meant an annual allowance of $2,500.
I should have known a Congressional princeling would actually mean $2.5K per month.
Poor lamb, didn’t he catch the zeitgeist? It’s the age of billionaires, sugar.
Maybe it is time you packed up the cot and your cheap plastic luggage and hit the bus back to Salt Lake City…

Chaffetz : We deserve $2500!
Working poor : Can we have food stamps so we can eat?
Chaffetz : No! Go away you moochers!

Do you know what members of Congress don’t have to pay for, you weasel face worm? Insurance. And that’s for life, you morally bankrupt Russia-lover.

Not wanting to sleep in his office is a flimsy excuse for putting the taxpayers through the cost of a special election. Surely, Chaffetz knew what the job was all about before he ran for re-election. there has to be some other reason for pulling a Palin.

Here’s the housing allowance Chaffetz deserves!

I think this is fine, just cut their salary by $30,000 and give them a $2,500 a month for housing.

$2500/month X 12 months X 600 congresspeople = $18 million each year.

I have a better idea- take five years of that money and building a large dormitory with 600 studio apartments. There could be 50 large conference rooms for meetings, an exercise area, pool, etc. In other words, government public housing near public transportation.

No lobbyists allowed.

Perfectly fine Chaffetz, right after Americans are given a guaranteed income, plus Health Care.

…plus guaranteed housing, just like he wants for Members of Congress.

How did he make $5 million? Did he get Hillary Clinton’s ex stockbroker?!

“I really do believe Congress would be much better served if there was a housing allowance for members of Congress,” Chaffetz said in an interview with The Hill. “I think a $2,500 housing allowance would be appropriate and a real help to have at least a decent quality of life in Washington if you’re going to expect people to spend hundreds of nights a year here.”

Chaffetz said his base congressional salary of $174,000 a year is “handsome” but that he “flat-out cannot afford a mortgage in Utah, kids in college and a second place here in Washington, D.C.”

The Deseret News in 2008 estimated that Chaffetz, newly elected to Congress, had a net worth of up to $5.6 million. OpenSecrets.org, a campaign-finance watchdog, estimated Chaffetz’s net worth in 2012 at $788,507

Okay here’s a thought.
Downsize. Send kids to community college. Make them get jobs to pay for school.
Get rid of iPhones. Cancel cable. Get rid of any big screen TVs in your home.
Sell your cars. Buy used. Don’t eat out. Get a second or third job. Pull yourselves up by your bootstraps. Live within your means.

I jest but isn’t that the type of stuff many conservatives say when folks ask for a minimum wage increase? Or when they say they can’t afford their homes? That they have low paying jobs? And these folks make and have way way less money and opportunities than what the Congressman does.

I mean, wow. That he can’t see the double standard here is astounding.

Retiring congressass and Steve Ditko villain Jason Chaffetz can go fuck himself. This level of entitlement from a person who would deny any aid to the people who actually need is sickening.
