Discussion: Chaffetz Calls On DOJ Watchdog To Probe Comey's Firing

Chaffetz better watch himself. He already has one injured foot. I’m sure that some of Trump’s “associates” could take care of the other.

Hmmmmm…Chaffetz has no more fux to give as a Rep, apparently, and is trying to position himself as “Mr Clean” for the gubernatorial race. He smells the shitstorm coming and is moving as quickly as possible out of the way.

The rest of the Goopers apparently want to drown in the septic swamp.

Ditto for Ros-Lehtinen who, as a member of the Intelligence Committee, has probably seen some things that tell her that being elsewhere is going to be the smart move.

Jason, Jason, Jason…Aren’t you forgetting something? BENGHAZI!!!

Screw you, and the scooter you rode in on.

It’s more than that w Chaffetz–he may face charges himself for his role in releasing classified information about emails in July 2016.
Whatever his motivation at this point, he’s toast. Fascinating watching him as he tries to reposition to save his own skin.

Wait, what? Chaffetz is still a Congressman? Claude Taylor and Mensch were assuring us weeks ago that Chaffetz was resigning any minute, or was rolling over on his GOPer colleagues, or was going to be indicted very soon. Or something. How is it that he’s still in office?

True, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Well, at least we’ve gotten rid of that scandal-ridden Obummer Administration. Just look at how many of them resigned in disgrace, were indicted, were tried, and/or were convicted!

Oh, wait…

They’re turning on him. Vanity is all that keeps Trump from resigning.

He may want to look squeaky clean for his gubernatorial race but I suspect the IG at Justice would be investigating this firing even without Chaffetz’s formal request. The IG doesn’t need permission from Congress to investigate various matters. That person, in this case Horowitz, is in an independent, non-partisan position within the executive branch tasked with overseeing waste, fraud and abuse of power. All Chaffetz did was try to make sure he had some read-in or heads up to what the IG might be doing as part of his job it would seem. Or he’s beginning to help tRump once again, run interference. Now that, I wouldn’t put past him. Chaffetz remains a toady asshole, even if he’s not running for Congress again.

Also tRump can fire the IG, and if that happened you would see even more hackles raised in many departments but particularly the Justice Department. If you thought Comey’s firing was explosive, tRump firing the IG would be a sign of a even bigger freak-out everywhere on Capitol Hill. There is a 30-day period in which tRump would have to provide Congress by statute with detailed reasoning as to why he would want to remove an IG from what I read. So its not quite as easy as summarily firing Comey, but it still can be done. Imagine the explosive impact if that happened however…but at this point, I wouldn’t put it past him.

And yet an internal investigation at the State Department wouldn’t have been alright with Chaffetz: Benghazi!

How about you do your Oversight job, Rep. Chaffetz? Call for hearings? Then you put the proceedings into the public light. 'Til then it just looks like window dressing and trying to keep your name in the headlines while you are away from Congress for your foot surgery.

What Chaffetz is really worried about is that the IG also has subpoena power from what I read. That’s what I think this is really about.

How about YOUR COMMITTEE does its job and looks into this, you putz?

I fear you are overly optimistic. And it’s not vanity that keeps Trump from throwing it all over. He does not see the world through any realistic lens. He lives in a fantasy world in which he is the greatest thing ever, and beset by the forces of evil (evil being anything not fawning or toadying to him) all around.

Clearly, you haven’t gotten the memo. Republican committees investigate alleged wrongdoing only by Democratic officials.

This is why he can routinely say such completely transparent bullshit without blushing. In the immortal words of George Constanza, “It’s not a lie… if you believe it.”

Trump and Sessions are fitting him for cement shoes.

Same difference.

Trump: What can anyone do If “The Watchdog” finds I did it illegally? Sue me? Impeach me? Chaffetz/Turtle do not have the Balls. I guarantee it!

I wonder if he has some beef with Sessions.
