Wouldn’t it be great if she ran for Governor or Senator of Texas? Now may be the right time for that. Even if she didn’t win…it would put her squarely on the map for any future plans along those lines. I read Cruz is really struggling in his 2018 re-election bid too. Is it too late for a Democratic candidate to file in Texas?
She has the courage and presence of mind to be a great leader. Governor of Texas or President? We need her now.
Does she currently have residency in Texas? I don’t know where she calls home.
The more I think about it, she would destroy the Republicans as a presidential candidate and marginalize evangelicals for several generations.
So I understand this senator named “Cruz” is up for re-election in 2018…
IMHO, she kicked the “social conservatives” (read authoritarian patriarchs) up one side and down the other, winning clinic cases, mobilizing people to go after the Komen Foundation for ending breast exams done by Planned Parenthood, and galvanizing donors.
Is she the one to mobilize and galvanize the urban populations of Texas to overwhelm the rurals and deplorables? I have my doubts.
I’m sure there is an abundance of strong women to follow up in her Planned Parenthood footsteps.
Thanks for your service, Ms. Richards, and best wishes for any future political endeavors.
From what I found in the Google she is a resident of New York City. Texas requires a residency of five years to run for Senate.
She lives in NYC, but is a native of Waco. Can’t tell if she’s maintained her TX residency.
Beto O’Rourke is running as a democrat against Cruz. He’s getting a lot of good attention and a good bit of funding. He’s currently serving in the House for a district in the El Paso area. He’ll make it interesting. I think he’s currently polling within single digits of Cruz right now.
That must explain why she hasn’t jumped in at this point, considering she is a bit of a political animal. You’d almost have to be these days leading Planned Parenthood. Its become one more front in the rightwing’s war against women, unfortunately. Not a welcome thing by most of us either.
He is only up 5 points over Beto Cruz and still has a primary to deal with. http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/370477-dem-poll-cruz-leads-dem-challenger-by-single-digits
Totally a class act. She’s smart, attractive, tenacious and moral. She’s done a great service to women across the world. She should run for office and kick some GOP thug to the curb. Thanks, Cecile!
It would be nice if Ted Cruz was retired wouldn’t it?
Beto O’Rourke

Also agree that she would be great for any office. In my mind I can still see Ann Richards saying 'where’s George?"
Richards vs Cornyn would be amazing. Oh, if only Molly Ivins were alive to cover it.
(She could also rid us of Andrew Cuomo, which would be pretty nice.)
The last Democrat to be elected Governor of Texas was her mother:(I’m old enough to remember Ann Richards). The race for governor is this year. She wins, she jumps to the head of the class for Democratic nominee in 2018. Tom Perez are you listening?
So is Abbot.
from wikipedia
Texas gubernatorial election, 2014
Nominee Greg Abbott Wendy Davis
Party Republican Democratic
Popular vote 2,796,547 1,835,596
Percentage 59.3% 38.9%
Wendy Davis ran against Abbot.
Texas is quite weird about party affiliation - being a republican is almost a requirement for office, and they are working very hard to keep it that way. Cities like Austin, and Dallas are fairly sane. (the blue spots in the center of the precinct/county maps shown).
Heard that the women’s march in TX was the largest assembly/demonstration in state history at the state capitol…and the state is so big that getting that far wouldn’t be easy for a lot of people whose heart may have been with the women. Just sayin’.
Cornyn’s term isn’t up until 2021.
