Discussion: CBS Makes Major Changes To Focus Of Dem Debate In Light Of Paris Attacks

Discussion for article #242845

Let me guess, this will be the response from all of the GOP - bomb the hell out of them. That is it. That is all they have. I expect the Democrats will have a much longer but wiser response - utilize intelligence to target strikes to prevent innocent casualties that will create the next version of ISIS, or the Taliban. Find ways to cut off their funding, for without money they can’t buy arms, travel easily to their next targets or bribe local officials. Less satisfying to the blood hungry right wingers but much smarter in the long run.

Of course the right wingers refuse to believe that ISIS came out of the US’s bungled Iraq war but facts never matter to them. They are happy to go along with the neo-cons when something like this happens, damn the consequences.

ISIS would like to extend their deepest gratitude to CBS for help making their PR dreams a reality. Said the group, “From our extremists to yours, we wish you all a very happy fear mongering”.

“The entire world is looking to the White House. These people are vying to take over this office," he said.

WTF does that mean?

In light of the way that HRC’s 11-hour appearance on the Gowdy-Doody Show-- had a transformative effect among the voting public-- almost overnight? I’m looking forward to the (D) debate this evening having a similar effect for everyone participating.

I imagine the numbers of viewers both live and recorded will be larger than any of the debates thus far.
Voters who weren’t likely to be paying attention until February/Iowa-- may be tuning in.
It’s an opportunity to show a massive distinction in terms of those voters who-- until perhaps tonight-- see ‘no difference between the two parties’.

Yes, let’s stop worrying about economic equality, global warming, the inaffordability of higher education, ad nauseam, so that we can all jump on the terrorism’s-gonna-kill-us-all-run-for-the-hills bandwagon. 'Cos after all, it’s a lot easier, and more lucrative, for the MSM to cover.

How can we respond thoughtfully? Declaring war on ISIS and mounting intensified attacks on war-torn areas in Syria and Iraq is not likely to help.

The basic math is simple: If ISIS recruits more people than it loses, its forces will continue to grow. :“Collateral damage” has severe consequences.

Your “GOP response” sounds to coherent to represent Carson’s views.

Actually, “bomb the hell out of them” is too sensible for the GOP. Mostly they seem to be calling for full on sectarian Holy War between Christianity and Islam.

It just struck me that these are the first debates to take place on an “over-the-air” network. True?

One news report claimed that a Syrian passport was found on one of the bombers.

GOP RESPONSE: Bomb Iran.

It’s not funny. One of those GOP turkey’s will be the party nominee. He/Carly would be a banana peel away from the presidency. That’s more frightening than ISIS.

The thing that needs to go are the fucking drones. Making people live under the constant threat of death from the sky is not, to use a phrase made popular by the un-indicted war criminals that set this on-going disaster in motion, “winning hearts and minds.”

I hope Bernie points this out tonight.

If only we had a press that could walk and chew gum at the same time. Terrorists bomb Paris and suddenly that’s the only story – which is exactly why terrorists kill. Meanwhile, problems like income inequality will be allowed to fester; the press won’t pay attention until it fuels something a lot like the French revolution. If it bleeds, it leads.

I agree, but that’s gonna be a lonely position right about now.
But that’s what I like about Sanders: he’s not gonna change his opinions to suit the mood of the day. Unlike some other pols I can think of.
