Discussion: Castro Uses Morning TV Spot For Some Mild Gloating: 'Clearly I Had A Great Night'

John Berman’s question:

[We in the media have done everything in our power to ignore your campaign, so after people saw you on the screen last night for pretty much the first time, a weird thing happened: they searched the Internet for more information about you.]

“Why do you think that is?”

He certainly did have a good night.

I rewatched a good portion of the debate on tv (heard it live on audio livestream while driving). A lot of people thought Booker did well. On audio I did not think so. On tv, Booker definitely appeared better to me, but I think I set a high bar for Booker. He’s impassioned and in many ways represents the heart and soul of the party on emphasizing our values on such issues as guns and immigration. I just think he was outshone by Castro and Warren and even DeBlasio. I didn’t quite see a guy who had a focus on a message that would contrast effectively with and beat Trump.

He did well. Maybe the start of making the case that he is a plausible VP.

He should enjoy it while we are still talking about it.

In about an hour we will be instead talking about how the SC just killed democracy.

I always feel like he trying to sell me a car…

I thought Castro had a good night. I knew nothing about him but saw him as very articulate, knew the issues and was one of the calmer speakers. What came though to me is his humanity.
Let him enjoy the spotlight while it lasts. It’s going to be tough on any of these candidate to get to the final 2-4.

In a couple of weeks,2nd quarter fundraising reports will be due. I suspect that won’t be a great night for Castro. No ad money…no staff money.

He had a very good night. They ignored him for most of the first hour, until they got to the immigration question, then he was on fire. It’s a damn shame the media has been ignoring him until now and sadly i don’t expect that to change much after this debate.

I think he will make a great VP candidate, i’m hoping for a Warren/Castro ticket. I’d also support a Warren/Booker ticket but, i don’t know if two East Coast “liberals/elites” (GOP favorite target words) would be the best idea. So i think someone from mid-west or TX (Buttigieg or Castro) would be the best VP options of those currently in the race.

Can Castro deliver Texas?

Not if we are likely to be close to, or at war with Iran.

If Warren is the nominee Castro doesn’t seem the balance for her ticket.

If Warren, she’ll need someone w/ perceived foreign policy or military experience.

I suspect he will not snag the nomination… so I would answer should he be the VP nominee.

He could move a few points out way, it will help the Senate candidate… but the top of the ticket will have to do the heavy lifting…be plausible to the state, someone exciting that can boost turnout.

“Well clearly I had a great night,”

If you like humility and modesty, I guess he’s not your guy…

You gotta have SOME ambition to run for POTUS

Y’all might be interested in seeing this recent story on Castro in The Texas Tribune. His performance last night confirmed for me more than a little of the promise I see in him via this article:

Some people look at folks like Castro and all they expect is “modesty”–and subservience.

Fortunately, I was service kid and I was raised with (and trained in MY military service BY) some confident Latinos.

Like this guy.

I think he’d be a fabulous VP

He did have a great night, and I’m glad that he knows it.

It doesn’t mean that he lacks humility or modesty.

Yes, I was impressed by Julio but De Blasio really surprised me.

I thought Booker and Castro had the best night. DeBlasio was a distant third and Warren reminded me why I love her, but feel she’s in no way equipped to beat PP.

He shocked me. I was all set to hate him all night, but found him pretty compelling.

When I heard DeBlasio talk about his Dad, it all came together about my impression of him. He, like myself, is a child of the aftermath of WWII (albeit he is a late Boomer and I am an early one).

There is a lot of New Deal in that cauldron of thoughts…which I share…especially when waking up to the daily dismantling of the idea of people helping people.
