I think Jimmy is incorrectly assuming election integrity is something Kemp gives a shit about.
In any case, this would have been good advice six months ago. Not sure Kemp stepping down now will matter much.
Agreed… Jimmy Carter is the only POTUS of my lifetime that always acted with integrity. He comes from a different era, and I am sure that the current state of politics in the US is a major concern to him
Kemp alleging that Abrams and her backers want to give ballots to immigrants who are in the country illegally
WTF AP, you simply publish the meme without any pushback. Not really a surprise because most of us here already know you suck.
As if
Integrity and Republican should never be used in the same sentence.
It dare not speak it’s name around Republicans
In the end, it seems like a valiant but naive attempt by Carter. I salute him for trying, and if Kemp cared about anything other than winning, it might be persuasive. Kemp, unfortunately, has already demonstrated his disdain for fairness and the appearance of balance. He is willing to win by any means necessary and the shadow he casts on the electoral system and government as a whole is merely a bonus to him.
GOP? Integrity? Ahhh, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
There is no shaming someone with no shame.
Don’t forget Obama; no indictments of his aides despite endless Benghazi inquisitions.
I think it’s interesting that Kemp is using Kobach’s playbook. Each of these candidates for Governor are also their state’s Sec. of State. Each has shown their willingness to put more than their thumb on the scale to ensure that they win. And each has claimed that it’s the local election boards that run the show. But in each state local election board officials are appointed.
We’ve seen in Dodge City Kansas that when reporters or lawyers try to get answers from the local officials they get sent to SoS office, which then in turn sends them back to the local Election Board.
I’ve never understood the ‘upheaval ‘ argument on paper ballots. If you’re worried about upheaval, consider the upheaval that would result from an election that doesn’t command the confidence of the voters.
I also don’t understand why lawsuits seeking to introduce paper ballots are not brought sooner, to avoid the upheaval issue.
Carter’s speaking out on this situation reminded me that he has acted as an election observer in the past. I hate to see him have to confront it in his own state. He deserves better–as do we all.
The reality should be: Republicans dare not speak their name around integrity.
Sadly, I think you have it right, as Republicans have no shame, they will dare to shout their name at will…regardless of the actions done in their name, from voting malpractice to bombings and mass murder in a synagogue. (ETA:…or racially-motivated killings at a Kroger)
This has been a hard week.
Unfortunately, time to boost Secret Service protection on President Carter, as the deplorables will not take kindly to the truth.
A noble effort, but pointless.
From Kemp’s point of view, the alternatives are not, ‘win cleanly with the public confident in a fair outcome’, or ‘win by cheating and have the public question the legitimacy of the result’, it is ‘win by cheating, or lose’
While he might not like people questioning his legitimacy, I’m sure he prefers it to losing.
Republicans have also figured out that if you win by cheating it gives you another cudgel to beat your opponents with, since you can call them sore losers who can’t accept the results of elections.
Well-intentioned, but doomed to fail.
I find myself wondering why Dems at all levels aren’t running around with their hair on fire about this. This is pretty close to a 50-50 election – and one candidate is using massive voter suppression to ensure that he wins. And every time the Dems just wring their hands it reaffirms this kind of corruption and they come back with more brazen shit. This is not a free and fair election. It’s probably unwinnable for Abrams as long as the GOP has its thumb on the scale. I know there’s a lot to be hair-on-fire about these days but…
Oh he knows it’s pointless, but he also knows he needs to do it to remind the public that if Kemp doesn’t resign the results will probably be crap.
This article fails to mention that Kemp unlawfully destroyed records from the 2016 election, presumably so that no one could see what shenanigans he and/or the russians were pulling.
Jimmy, you may be the last white man from Georgia who has integrity.
