Some human being? I do my best not to follow the private lives of celebrities.
And the thing is, there are a lot of artists who do that kind of music. Kanye West isnât exactly known for doing that kind of music. The problem isnât that the uplifting music and writing isnât out there. The problem is that, when you live in poverty with next to no way to get out other than in a body bag, there isnât much uplifting music or writing can do.

Carson strikes me as an automaton capable of reacting to various stimuli in a way that crudely approximates how an actual human might respond. If he meets a black musician he gets out his 11 index cards and reads the one about how rap music is the sole source of any problem in minority communities.

As an old white guy, my insight into and understanding of the black experience in America is very limited. Quite possibly nil. I know that the black community is not monolithic; not all blacks are Democrats, some blacks may prefer opera over hip-hop, etc. I make no assumptions. But this Ben Carson/Kanye West situation just seems a bit off to me.

And BTW, whatâs wrong with simply being âimpressedâ by someone. Why does it always have to be âextremely impressedâ? And BTW, how is it that there are so many âgeniusesâ out there in the political world? And of course, why is everything âHUGEâ? Whatever happened to âawesomeâ, which means nothing and everything at the same time.
