Discussion: Carson: GOP 'Wouldn't' Stall SCOTUS Nominees If They Controlled White House

Discussion for article #246053

Carson said he that he thought the nation’s highest court has become a “political tool” and suggested lifetime appointments should be reexamined.

From one political tool to another? Um… why is ANYONE still listening to this incoherent wanker?

Lifetime appointments should be examined, after we have your head examined. First things first.

…suggested lifetime appointments should be reexamined.

Unless, of course, you are a conservative, strict constitutionist who thinks the same way Scalia did. He did, after all, “know” what the Founders would have thought if they knew about the present…

Geeze. Make it stop. This is giving me a huge headache.

How on Earth do GOP radicals get called “Conservative”?

Carson went on to say, “Duh.”

Actually, all the BS aside, the GOP really ought to play ball with the President now. Contrary to Carson’s fever dream, Mr. Obama pretty much has to nominate a middle of the road candidate to have any hope of getting an appointment. If (dear god, PLEASE) we get a Democrat in office next year, that offer will probably not stand.

With all due respect, Ben Carson doesn’t know his ass from straight up.

Correct answer. Too bad it came from someone with advanced dementia.

“Recognize that the two picks that the president has selected are ideologues, so there’s really no reason to believe that his next pick wouldn’t be an ideologue also,” Carson added.

And Scalia wasn’t an ideologue? Naked politics is all the GOP is about anymore.

Very true, but they’re handcuffed. The base would explode at the least sign of flexibility, and at this point in the nominating process the GOP Craziness Factor is dialed up way past 11. If we had a politically shrewd President - oh, wait, we do! - this state of affairs could be managed in a way that puts the Republican in an awful bind. To me, this looks like a “Proceed, Majority Leader” moment on steroids.

In an appearance on South Carolina radio station WRNN, Carson was asked if the presidential candidates on Saturday’s debate stage would have the same position if a Republican controlled the Executive branch.

“No, they wouldn’t,” Carson replied, according to audio flagged Tuesday by BuzzFeed News.

It wouldn’t matter at this point, regardless of the year, this will always be an issue.
