Discussion for article #241647
Nazi analogies are the first refuge of a lazy mind.
‘It’s Not Hyperbole’ … nope, just extra-large stupidity
He is right, its not hyperbole. Its a complete and utter lie.
Its rather ironic that the right wants to constantly say that Clinton is untrustworthy, when we now have Carson telling lies, and then repeating them when its pointed out that he is indeed, completely and utterly wrong. Same with Fiorinia…no video tape, let alone the one she named, shows what she described. But she keeps on insisting it does…a complete lie.
The people you shouldn’t trust are people who tell you complete lies to your face, that you KNOW are false. And continue to do so. THATS untrustworthy.
It’s hyperbole.
Also, saying “it’s not hyperbole” is hyperbole.
“I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed,” Carson replied. “There’s a reason that these dictatorial people take the guns first.”
…
Few citizens owned, or were entitled to own firearms in Germany in the 1930s.The Weimar Republic had strict gun control laws. When the Third Reich gained power, some aspects of gun regulation were loosened, such as allowing ownership for Nazi party members and the military. The laws were harshened in other ways. Nazi laws disarmed “unreliable” persons, especially Jews, but relaxed restrictions for “ordinary” German citizens. The policies were later expanded to include the confiscation of arms in occupied countries
In a 2011 magazine piece, law professor Mark Nuckols says Nazi gun control theories are part of a “shaky intellectual edifice” underlying “belief in widespread gun ownership as a defense against tyrannical government.” He says the idea is “gaining traction with members of Congress as well as fringe conspiracy theorists.” In his 2011 book, fellow law professor Adam Winkler says: “This radical wing of the gun rights movement focuses less on the value of guns for self-defense against criminals than on their value for fighting tyranny.” He says the militia groups that grew in number across the U.S. after the early 1990s organized “to fight off what they saw as an increasingly tyrannical federal government and what they imagined was the inevitable invasion of the United States by the United Nations.” Winkler wrote that “[to] some on the fringe,” the Brady bill “was proof that the government was determined to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights.”
If only there was some push-back from a well informed mainstream media. Maybe then that long needed conversation on gun control would be a fruitful one.
Anyhow, back to today’s ‘movie’, Tony Brando, Hoppy Brando and Skittles the wonder moose in that NFL.com Fantasy football classic ‘Fear of a Patriots blowout.’
Sociopath Carson pattern: makes idiotic comments, then doubles down.
There were people with guns who tried to stop the Nazis - they’re called armies. And even they had a tough time stopping them - I seem to recall a rather large world wide battle in the 40s. Maybe Carson has heard of it.
Pro tips for people like Carson :
- Red Dawn was not a documentary
- Dirty Harry didn’t actually exist
- 24 was not based on a true story
- History actually happened and people can read about what transpired; there’s no need to make things up
Here’s an example of hyperbole : Carson is the most ignorant and craziest person to ever run for President in the history of the US.
On second thought, that isn’t hyperbole. It’s pretty much true.
Never mind.
Competence in a narrow field of specialty is no guarantee of competence in any other field.
As Ben keeps proving over and over and over again…
That is a scary cat.
when you talk to average American citizens, they know exactly what I’m talking about.
It helps if the given American citizen is, like Carson, neither (1) a historian, nor (2) a person who has taken any responsible steps to inform her/himself. It further helps if this average citizen stays informed specifically through reading tawdry NRA disinformation with no peer-reviewed sources. Just propagandizing innuendo like Carson’s NRA-dictated book – that way citizens appreciate just what this lazy know-it-all is parroting.
That is one hell of a defense.
“Your comments are hyperbolic.”
“No they’re not.”
Another armchair Dirty Harry lectures Jews on the Holocaust
I vote for delusional nonsense, but I am open to the possibility that it is an evil attempt to sow distrust, hatred, and fear between Americans.
Bumper-sticker worthy.
Because it describes the entirety of the G.O.P. At all times. With every political operative. From “establishment conservative” G.O.P. politician to full fledged Ted-Cruz-type whack job.
Made entirely possible by the Main Stream Media, which now is bereft of any sort of effective standards of journalism.
IF the Fourth Estate allows untruths to pass for facts, AND DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY CALL THIS TO THE PUBLIC’S ATTENTION, then Talking Points become equal to facts. Think about an exhaustively-researched report or book or news story or documentary or actual live broadcast.
**THINK ABOUT THESE TYPES OF JOURNALISTIC INSTRUMENTS CALLED EXACTLY THE SAME BY ESTABLISHED “JOURNALISTS” AS THE MOST VILE, FILTHY LIES PRODUCED BY RIGHT-WING POLITICIANS, THINK TANKS OR ROVIAN AGENCIES…ERGO…THERE IS NO FACT WHATSOEVER BECAUSE ALL–REPEAT–A L L LIVE, PRINT, TAPED BROADCAST INFORMATION IS THE SAME: TALKING POINTS **
You sound like Hitler.
Carson is absolutely right! Just look at how Japanese-Americans used their second amendment rights to fight the tyranny of internment during WWII.
