Discussion: Carson Camp To Rally Candidates To Confront RNC Over Debate Formats

LOL! Man, I miss picking up those papers there. The web is great and all, but having those papers in hand, walking through Noe Valley, stopping at the little coffee shop on Church and 29th (??not sure of the corner exactly). Jave 'N More. Great mochas! Nice family, too.

Afternoon to you, littlegirlblue.

I still read newspapers in print even with its messy ink. Across from Java 'N More is my favorite fruit and vegetable store, Church St. produce. You know it?

I do. I also miss Eric’s Restaurant. Damn fine Chinese food. I used to work in that neighborhood. Used to eat there and Savor up on 24th. There’s a little tea house on Church @ 24th, if I remember correctly. Damn, I miss home.

My favorite neighborhood produce store (outside the huge Ferry Building produce places) is Courtney’s Produce at the corner of Castro & 15th or 14th, right across from Davies (CPMC-Davies now).

We do go to Eric’s sometimes and Savor. Are you thinking of the tea shop on Church called Lovejoy’s? We go there too, and it’s about as close to British as you can get. Our go-to place for meals any time of day but especially brunch on weekends is Chow on Church near Market.

I know CPMC better than I know Courtney’s.

OMG, yeah, I remember Chow! I’ll bet you and I have crossed paths on more than one occasion. An old friend of mine (half British) used to take me to Lovejoy’s. Dang. I’m surprised I still remember all these details. Well, not that surprised, I guess. I used to hike all over SF. Literally. I so loved walking through The City – any time of the night or day. The North Mission at 16th & Mission/Guerrero, etc. Great walking there and by The Old Mission Church.

LOL. My first job in SF was for a private doctor there in the Medical Office Building.

You’d love what they’ve done to the Castro, widened the streets and narrowed the roadway just a bit, so one can stroll at leisure, and there are a ton of new stores. Of course the intersection of Market, 17th and Castro is still ground zero for the pretty boys on a sunny day. I have seen plenty of docs in that medical building, still have eye and ear guys there.

You might not have HBO but there is a documentary on called San Francisco 2.0, made by Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Nancy, about how much the City we love is changing under the influence of all the new big tech money pouring in. It’s changing gradually but I remember the old days when I moved here and what it was like. It’s really a sad state of affairs, and I personally lay it at the feet of the mayor Ed Lee who has sanctioned the growth. He’s a pay to play pol with little sense of the importance of preserving some of the past and leaving small businesses intact. He will be reelected unfortunately because there is no competition and he has the Chinese vote wrapped up.

Ahhh, the pretty boys. I must say, being in a college town here (Charlottesville), I do get to see some nice eye candy when I’m down at the University Hospital (UVA). Nice. Still, there is a “special” kind of atmosphere there in the Castro that you won’t find anywhere else besides Chelsea in NYC or New Orleans (whichever their version of Castro is there). Heck, we don’t have even ONE gay bar here. No cohesive community. If I weren’t so darned poor (and needing to be near the specialists … ), I’d move to Washington, D.C. or Norfolk, VA.

Yes, a good friend who lives in Duboce Triangle tells me there is a whole new flavor to the area. More apartment buildings, etc. Thank goodness for that, but I’m not sure they can ever really keep up with housing demand there – especially for middle-class and poor folk. It is what it is.

Ed Lee lied his way into City Hall. He and Rose Pak.

Should anyone be surprised now after Citizens United that thinking in the modern GOP would reflect the same mentality as did famous robber barons of the past, like Jay Gould, who boasted that he could "“hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half.”

It should no surprise that the GOP politicians, who reflect the wishes of their benefactors would all be squabbling over which of the modern robber barons will benefit the most. Their conception of the purpose of government, to the extent there is to be any at all, is to ensure that whatever benefits there may be of government socialism shall be reserved for the 1% and to insure that that the risk of unregulated capitalism should be shouldered by 99%.

There is new and very expensive housing available, add to that Airbnb’s presence and ordinary people looking for affordable housing are screwed. That’s the high paid tech influence bearing ugly fruit.

Yes, he lied, and she did too.

If that were to happen, may God have mercy on the people of New Jersey.

If the traffic and safe quiet commuting isn’t bad now, just wait until he returns.

But familys, when you go to them, have to take you in.

There is also one hell of a lot of Chinese money being poured into SF. Not downing the Chinese, etc., but I’m talking about the very strong effect of what my old friend Robert used to tell me was the sleeping giant. Once Rose Pak (and Willie Brown??–not sure) convinced Ed Lee to renege on his promise not to run for mayor outright (the first time), that was a tipping point. I agree with you about his deals with Silicon Valley tech companies, coming in (especially to mid-Market) at little to no City taxes – what a damn money grab. (God, I really hate coming off sounding anti-Chinese – as I am not – I loved the diversity and all the flavors of SF when I was there – I guess I’m just referring to the corrupt that went into full throttle).

Lindsey Graham suggested dividing all candidates into two equally sized groups regardless of poll ratings. Even seven candidates is too many for serious debate, however.

A brokered convention means a party with serious rifts in it. It would get ugly very fast with this group. I could easily imagine Cruz disparaging everyone, and receiving the same in return, for instance. Which pisses off the followers of both groups, making them more likely to stay home on election day.

And its all being played out on prime time. The media would be orgasmic in covering every salacious detail and rumor. Which has the ultimate effect of turning off every independent or right leaning Dem.

There is also no time for any campaign messaging for a general election, because as you pointed out, they eat up their convention time with deeply intra party partisan attacks.

Its highly doubtful the RNC would allow such an event to occur. That’s the type of thing that forces them to step in and prevent. Not the least because it would be the end of Preibus’ career, as well as costing them the election. (with devastating effects down ticket, too).

But, given how deeply split the GOP is between the Tea Party and the Establishment, anything could happen. The Tea Party seems quite willing to destroy the party’s electoral hopes in pursuit of overall control of the party…so that has to be considered.

Actually, I do. There was a lot of whining from Republicans about the fact that the Dems only talked about boring issues instead of having a good-old GOP style food fight.
