Is the rule to ask nicely first on this stuff, rather than just lay a subpoena on them point blank?
The GOPers should have began these investigations when they controlled both chambers. But no, they were more interested in kissing up to their corrupted king.
Trump has tagged Barr his buffer to stave off any efforts to comply with Dems investigation requests. Unfortunately, the Dems do not have a choice. They took an oath to defend our government from both domestic and foreign enemies!
This voter wants the Dems to DO THEIR JOB and fully investigate anyone who looks and act like a bona fide criminal!
Just a matter of time Trump will be taking swings at Barr, because he’s losing this Mueller Report battle. Mueller has shown us time and again, he’s a WINNER, without a doubt!
OK, subpoenas forthcoming.
This is normal. If I were Capital One I would have done exactly the same thing. Now the committee will issue a subpoena, the bank will comply and will have fulfilled their legal obligations, both to their clients and to Congress.
Yep, this is just how the process is supposed to work. Noxious bag of egg-farts Donald Trump deserves the same legal protections as people who are not obviously guilty as sin.
I’m pretty sure that they’re willing to hand the documents over, but they want a subpoena beforehand so that customers are reassured that these financial institutions don’t hand over personal information without good cause.
Yep. They’re just covering their asses. A subpoena is easy enough to issue.
"Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Mark Meadows (R-NC), who said the Democrats’ request “has the veneer of a fishing expedition.”
Wanna bet the Dems will catch a whopper or two?
Wonder who else will end up on the hook.
Really? Really? Weren’t these guys involved in a gazillion investigations of Secretary Clinton?
I mean… of course? I would be flabbergasted if a financial institution turned over these kinds of documents without a court order or subpoena.
They’re sort of a tag team, one says stupid, the other seconds it or even tops it.
Trump allies Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Mark Meadows (R-NC), who said the Democrats’ request “has the veneer of a fishing expedition.”
Not so much a fishing expedition as a necessary step in the task of ridding government of the stench of rotten fish.
This is completely true. I have worked for financial institutions both for profit and nonprofit for over 40 years. Absent a subpoena, our obligation is always to protect borrower confidentiality. Even with a subpoena, we must weigh the requirement to respond with the breadth of what is being requested so as to not produce confidential info which is not germane. Notwithstanding that, I’m heartily in favor of the House subpoenaing the information they need to investigate.
Hey tRump - what’s in your wallet?
Someone had to say it. Har!
As others here have said the bank is just doing their duty. And if Congress came right out with subpoenas the right wing press would be weeping tears of bitter sorrow and rage. And it doesn’t take long for their tears to trickle into the rest of the media. It’s really the only trickle down that works.
It also immunizes Capital One from any civil suits from people related to the documents.
Its all a big misunderstanding. His accountant just slipped and put the decimal point one spot to the right in 2012. Also, Fake News, No Collusion! I’m closing the border. THE PARTY OF HEALTHCARE!
“Fishing expedition” describes the entire GOP attitude toward rounding up law-abiding undocumented immigrants. Why do they pretend they don’t like it?
