Discussion: Can The GOP Hold The Senate By Pretending Donald Trump Doesn't Exist?

If you vote for any of these GOP ciphers, then you deserve the worst.

“What’s that? The guy standing next to me wearing the bed sheet and holding the flaming cross? Nope, never seen him before.”

“What’s that? Do I believe in the same principles as he does? Well. Yes.”

“But I’m much quieter about it.”

They seem to be, acting as if our president dosen’t exist.ie Merrick Garland. And acting like people don’t notice that contemptible act.

Grassley has cultivated the image of the mature non-partisan senator. He has said that the right thing to do is to hold the supreme court seat open so the voters can decide. But, he has also said that he is holding the seat open so Trump can decide, because Trump will nominate the right people, unlike Obama. Doesn’t really add up. As an Iowan, I hope this ends his career.

Trump can send his surrogate John Miller. He will also put nicknames on opponents, free of charge.

The big question mark is how mobilized Hispanic voters get. In Kern County, which is a GOP bastion, 51% of the potential voter base is now Hispanic. In the past they just never bothered to vote. The same problem for the GOP could emerge in Arizona in Maricopa County. What the 2016 elections may be about is the impact or lack of Hispanic vote determining many down-ballot races, and it would not happen because of Hillary but the Great Orange Piñata. Could see GOP voter suppression ramped up most in areas with large Hispanic voters blocks.

HA! If they think they can keep their own despicable base if they’re not actively supporting Trump at the top of the ticket, they’re in for a rude awakening!

They’ll be forced to take a stand on their LEADER Trump. And regardless of which choice they take either their very loud, dumb, crazy, bigoted base (and Trump, because he’s an amazingly thin-skinned ridiculously vindictive a-hole) will be out for blood, or the rest of the electorate will recoil in disgust. Or both!

Win-win-win!!!

No matter what they say, every Republican Senator supports The Rump, by their mere presence in Washington. The bigger their majority, the worse a Republican President will have the power to ruin things.

For a group that shuns compromise, they’re sure willing to point out differences as a positive now.

The Republicans don’t need the Presidency. The Koch Brothers and their fellow pimps have made it clear that they will spend whatever it takes to keep their Republican whores in office.

This is why we need a Recall amendment in the Constitution.

I wonder if Trump can keep his base. He’s likely not mega-rich, and the claim that he won’t be beholden to Billionaires (because he is one and will self-fund) has been totally tossed out the window. His permanent outsider status is totally gone. Is his base is going to follow him even when he’s just another dumb racist gaming the system? Maybe. But maybe not.

He will because they are now all in. At this point, facts aren’t going to matter. People don’t like to be wrong and have an amazing ability to live in states of denial against anything that upends their belief.

They never did matter.

This will be a great opening for democrats if they can take it. Press the see-nothing republicans at every step, because if they support Trump they lose the sane people in the audience, and if they repudiate Trump they lose a big chunk of their base.

And it has to be unequivocal: “Do you think this crazy person is qualified to be president?” rather than just “Do you support the nominee?”

Important to remember that Republicans took a divorced former Democrat, who supported Planned Parenthood and nuclear disarmament, and turned him into God’s right arm.

Their capacity to reinvent is significant, but not insurmountable. Trump has many vulnerabilities, but vulnerabilities aren’t sufficient to win elections.

Our challenge is also to Make Hillary Great Again.

We need to express the things we want for this country. How will we stay secure against ISIS? How will we improve the economy? How will we change climate? What will we do about college debt? What will we do about guns?

We don’t need the full solution to all of these. Just good small steps that make nice sound bites. Like… we strengthen our allies and support democracy at home and abroad, we beat China at solar manufacturing, we give tax breaks to homeowners who adopt renewable energy, we refinance student loans to 0% interest, we establish universal background checks.

Bernie Sanders made at least one helpful contribution to the Democratic Party in the primaries. We have to promote our ideas. Taking down Trump is not victory.

No, we really don’t. House members are elected every 2 years, Senate members every 6. If the people can’t toss them out during an election, how is it more likely that they’ll be able to get rid of them during a recall election?

The GOP is trying to forgotten the old saying, “you dance with the one that brought you”
So Trump’s coattails won’t be long enough to cover your asses, boo hoo.
