Misread the headline but maybe they should hold an auction and take the money to help this action. Letters are nice but Ryan just got a half million from the Koch machine to make poor people poorer.

If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be … For the poor you will always have with you in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Deuteronomy 15:7-11)
This is the passage in the Torah to which Jesus was alluding when he said “The Poor will always be with you.” John 12: 8.
Evangelical Republicans (and Republicans in general) use John 12:8 to justify not doing anything to help the poor, completely ignoring the passage “You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.” For the Supply Side Jesus followers John 12:8 is interpreted as meaning since we can’t get rid of the poor anyway why bother. According to Sister Ayn Rand the poor need to pick themselves up by their own bootstraps.
This is largely about civic engagement, getting people involved and it’s better done without the money.
Besides, lots of money is pouring into congressional Dem campaigns via small donations. Republicans have been the best ads (Nunes challenger Janz did very well this week).
Thank you Rev Barber for re-educating poor people on how GOP policies and legislation IS the cause of their poverty!
Shit’s getting real: “a season of direct action and civil disobedience”, indeed!
We also need a white reverend to attract white poor people too. Evangelical preachers are too interested in jet airplanes, big houses, and grabbing pu**y… Is Pope Francis available?
