Discussion: California Sees Growing Opposition To 'Sanctuary' Law Since DOJ Lawsuit

Sum up: Republicans using xenophobia and racism to rally voters as usual.

People come here illegally, knowing that they may be caugh,t adios, An aside, cash-strapped baltimore, md, another of those cities shielding illegals, set aside over 250,000 to provide lawyers for them, while teachers are spending money out of their own pockets, for school supplies

So AP went to a few conservative strongholds in So Cal, where folks gave always vited GOP, and discovered that the Trump voters and pols don’t like immigrants and projected this onto “California.”

I call bullshit.

Since that has nothing to do with anything under discussion here, forgive us if we treat this as the rather silly non sequitur that it is.

Nobody is “shielding illegals.” The fact that you have to cast the issue in this dishonest manner tells us all we need to know about your knowledge and your motives.

I am proud to say the cities & counties in Silicon Valley area were quick to approve sanctuary policies. Even before the state did. My local school districts quickly sent letters assuring student privacy would be observed, records would not be shared w/ INS.

No huge surprise that Orange Co is anti-immigrant. What else is new?

I wish the headline captured the partisan nature of this “opposition.” Perhaps it should read: “California GOP sees 2018 opportunity to drive wedge with ‘Sanctuary’ law.” It reads as though there is growing public opposition but then sites no such polling.

Ah yup…

Orange County?

OC GOP Fred Whitiker and Gentification…

Move 'em out and more room for this kinda of crap.

Ewww, I’ve never seen a more possum-like grin.

The TPM comment thread needs a troll button. (The ‘silly’ or ‘idiotic’ nature of the comments would of course be implied.)

That the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, all Republicans, and currently chaired by a pretty blond with ambitions for Issa’s 49th CD seat, is leading this effort, and that the vote was scheduled about two weeks ago and is being held in a closed session TOMORROW is the biggest concern.

San Diego County is fairly evenly split D, R, and I, but with more D’s, and we have a lot of immigrants, here, with and without papers, and the Board is going to take this vote with no input from the people of the County is pretty disturbing to say the least.

Unconscionable is a better description, and they need to feel some heat for this action. It would be nice if local media, the local Democratic Central Committee, and local leaders would say so, but I’m not holding my breath. The closed session part is the most objectionable part of this, I don’t know what their justification, no, excuse is, but it would be nice to see that crap challenged.

As Orange County CA goes so goes California…the other way.

Ironic that it’s “Orange” County supporting Dotard, and distributing dog whistles…

Orange County, California still has an active KKK. During the elections, a KKK march in Orange County was one of several places nationwide where Trump rallies turned violent. And, if memory serves, it was the only instance where that violence was KKK-related: Ku Klux Klan rally in Anaheim erupts in violence; 3 are stabbed and 13 arrested.

I live in a rural part of the upper midwest, where every day I drive by the site of a KKK cross-burning back in the early 1900’s, that actually had postcards of it produced at the time to commemorate it. Still some very strong racist overtones persist to this day.

It is going to be immigrant bashing 24/7 from now through the mid terms because it is the only issue the GOP has that still moves the needle. They are ideologically bankrupt and are taking their cues from their moronic leader from here on out.

OK, that works for me.

And has a picture of a massive protest of 8 people.

Yeah, I’m confused why TPM thought this AP Republican electoral propaganda was worthy of republishing.

Then I’m sure these proud GOP “patriots” would NEVER object to a tax INCREASE needed to PAY for the added expense of this Reich-wing stew-pud and, in fact, will propose it!

Any day now…any day…

Funniest line in this entire post:

“When the attorney general of the United States decides to take a firm position against it, I think that gave a signal to a lot of us that, ‘Hey, California is on the wrong side of this thing.’” - Orange County chairman of the Republican Party, Fred Whitaker

Yeah. Sure. Elf-like scourge and Russian BFF, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III!! Who WOULDN’T immediately think that?
