Discussion: California Guv Trolls Climate-Denying Carson With Copy Of UN Report

Discussion for article #240403

Carson doesn’t need to read any such thing. Because he’s a doctor, you know. By virtue of having mastered a highly complex and academically difficult curriculum in a relatively narrow area of specialization and thereafter having had the lives of human beings in their hands, physicians are by definition experts on all things they choose to have an opinion about. Ask any doctor. They’ll tell you its true.

I LOVE this!!! (not that any of Carson’s followers would read or acknowledge this evidence)

There is a universe in which Dr. Carson would read the report in its entirety, consider the evidence, and then issue a statement to Gov. Brown saying, “I was wrong, and I owe you an apology. Please tell me what can I do to help combat this grave threat to the well-being of our planet.” We do not live in that universe.

unfortunately the mechanics of actually using the device escaped Dr Carson

Don’t need no stinkin’ UN report to tell me a sovereign nation cannot be free to ignore facts that the One Worlders want to shove down our throats just to save the world.

That more/less describes my father. Anytime a subject matter caught his interest, he would immediately devour every book in the local library on the subject. Until the subject was puppy training. That time he was not the one who did all the devouring.

Why can’t Jerry Brown run for president?

After they tell you how stupid you are for even having to ask.

Note: my own doctor is a pleasant fellow who treats me with all the respect due a fellow human, but he is a GP, not a surgeon.

Gov. Brown gives Uncle Ben a great big howdy.

Oh, we’re totally different. We always know just enough about the thing we’re opining on to sound convincing to actual subject matter experts as long as we can control the conversation with leading questions.

"I know there are a lot of people who say ‘overwhelming science,’ but
then when you ask them to show the overwhelming science, they never can
show it,” Carson told the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday. “There is no overwhelming science that the things that are going on are man-caused and not naturally caused.”

Oky Doky Dr Ben, you asked for it:

Dr Ben, note when the temperature began to increase. It corresponds to the beginning of the industrial revolution when humans began intensive use of fossil fuels.
And from the rocket scientists who ought to know:

But trying to change the opinion of climate change deniers is like trying to convince a birther they’re wrong.
Edit:
Here’s a link on consensus among scientists that Dr Ben says does not exist:

What we have in Dr Ben is a science trained guy who chooses to deny science.

Young-earth creationists should, every time they opine about science, be immediately shut down with laughter.

That’s my Governor! Sorry if yours is Scott Walker or Chris Christie or Bobby Jindal.

and not completely unlike we professors . . . . except (ask anyone who brought up Obama’s time at the University of Chicago) we also don’t understand everyday life.

You know doctors too.

“not that any of Carson’s followers could read or acknowledge this evidence.” Most of them aren’t smart enough to actually understand data.

"The governor sent Carson a flash drive with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s report on the science . . . "

Do we really think Dr. Carson will know how to read a flash drive, much less understand the science in the report?

Let us remember that Carson not only does not accept the science of climate change, he does not accept the science of evolution, he believes that homosexuality is a learned deviancy, he believes that tar-sands oil is “perfectly safe,” and that the Affordable Care Act is “the worst thing that has happened in the nation since slavery.”

Why should we expect that he will accept any scientific evidence of climate change accelerated by human activity? The better question should be whether a man of such a closed scientific mind should be President of the United States?
