Discussion: Calif. Shuts GOP Out From Senate Race With 2 Dems Advancing To Runoff

I said this in the Hive, I’m a big time Kamala supporter, but Sanchez isn’t bad at all. She’s faced a ton of BS because of who she beat to get her seat years ago and deals with anti-immigrant protests all the time. The idiots are still convinced she gained her seat because of “illegals” voting and hound her.

She’s dogged and solid, if a bit to my right. If it were anyone but Kamala, I would be fine with supporting her. Her gaffes remind me of Biden, not mean spirited.

Her beating B-1 Bob was an exceptional point in California political history, I’ll give you that.

Now can someone arrange to get Dana Rohrbacher out of there, please?

The dark days have past for California. At one time, it seemed the state was doomed to foolishness and one bad decision after another.
But the people wised up and look at them now, the model of well run state politics.

This is good for the whole nation because California tends to lead, so the stronger they get, the better for all of us.

@dave_adams @chammy Something similar to the Harris vs. Sanchez ticket is taking shape in the State Senate District 11 race. Two Dems finished first and second, Scott Wiener (my guy) and Jane Kim (whom Bernie endorsed). A repub came in third.

Out of 5,974,191 votes cast (as of 8am) in California yesterday,

Jill Stein got 7,444 of them. One tenth of one percent.

I just meant that there’s going to be a runoff because this was not the actual election, that’s all.

Yeah, the D turnout was good. I wonder how much the R senate candidates were hurt by the fact that their primary is over (well, more so than the Dem primary) so there was less incentive for Rs to vote. It was not enough to matter I’m sure.

Well…so much for Plan B, eh?

Dana hit 56.6% last night, so I think he’s probably safe. HOWEVER…

‘Firebug Darrell’ Issa only pulled 51.1% of the vote last night. In a depressed-turnout election due to no GOP Senate candidate and Trump topping the ticket, the Democratic Party would be crazy not to take a shot at that insufferable asshole.

I hope you’re right, but 42% of those who voted yesterday were Republicans. Who will they vote for in November? Could be a very tight race.

Given that Republican politicians offer nothing other than promises to hurt working people, it’s no surprise that two Democrats are in the runoff. The surprise is that Republicans are contending anywhere.

That one’s baffled me for years.

Conservatives are masters of voting against their own best interests.

This has such positive implications for all down-ticket races in the country. Even though California is heavily Democratic, that the GOP candidate could not even come in second means that mainstream Republicans are staying home in droves. This is the first primary result that has truly given me hope for the general.

But what would the news media do? They’d have to cover substance instead of blather and horsies.

@commiedearest

I would never take a win for granted and anything is possible, but sometimes the indicators are such they can’t be overlooked. There are more Democrats registered to vote in California than Rs and Harris is going to receive endorsements from the most influential Californians in the state including Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein and probably the president himself.

Nice job by my home state. Make 'em pay any chance you get!

They are, as we know, fully invested in the horse race. All of them (lookin’ at you “liberal” MSNBC).

Any poll, usually outliers, that supports the horse race ‘reporting’ will be flogged mercilessly, and all others ignored.

It’s what they do, their business model values conflict (horse race) over content (y’know, what we used to call “news”).

Right there with you, Cap’n!

I’m perfectly okay with self-suppression of Republican votes.
