“California Gov. Gavin Newsom was sworn in Monday and immediately” inserted himself into the 2020 presidential race.
Off to a good start
This guy got absolutely destroyed by Adam Carolla on his podcast a few years back. I hope he’s brushed up on some basic facts since then. It was cringe worthy. Jerry Brown he ain’t.
“He won’t say my name, just like Momma.”
“corruption and incompetence.”
I highlight this because while the first gets lots of coverage, the second does not. Trump and his team are simply incompetent, and the problem is going to get worse as B list hires (see Sesson) who at least knew how government worked are replaced by conservative grifters who are at best D listers.
Part of Trump’s problem with the shutdown is that they have no ability to plan, they don’t even have a wall plan to try to sell, all they have is a random amount of $$$ they want, what they do with it is unknown.
This is an element of Republican craziness I hope that oversight highlights. Incompetence which allows waste, fraud, and evil outcomes.
OT but related: I work for the State of Wisconsin (and contract with the Feds), and today I undertook one of my all-time favorite duties in my 20+ years working here: I updated all the letterheads to show Tony Evers as Governor!
And I flipped off every Scott Walker letterhead as I deleted it, because I am a petty man…
"Throughout his speech, Newsom sharply contrasted Trump’s rhetoric on immigrants, saying California will not have “one house for the rich and one for the poor, or one for the native-born and one for the rest.”
“But there were few specifics on how he’ll get there.”
This seems an odd critique of an inaugural speech, like being disappointed Obama didn’t bust out a PowerPoint during his.
He’s a democrat. Only republicans are allowed to propose bold programs (to wreck the country) without any details.
Took the thought (if not the words) right out of my mouth.
He’s got something though. Plays well on television. Perhaps too well. And I keep turning the fact that he was married to Kimberly Guilfoyle over in my mind.
Kind of a sickening thought. Gives one pause.
More specifics on Newsom’s plans — including a “Marshall plan” for affordable housing, a reduction in drug prices and criminal justice reforms — will be outlined in the coming days.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom was sworn in Monday and immediately drew sharp battle lines with President Donald Trump, pledging to enact “progressive, principled” policies as the antidote to the White House’s “corruption and incompetence.”
His values are very similar to AOC’s, and I mean that as a compliment. Let’s see how fervently the radical right attacks his every word, every move, and every outfit.
“Kimberly Guilfoyle over in my mind” Apparently she was booted from Fox for having pictures of male appendages. Hannity’s Irish curse? You wonder what her political views were when she was First Lady of San Francisco or like her TV appearances it’s for show.
If he tried to run Guilfoyle might reveal some secrets. He has baggage. There is also the affair he had with his aide’s wife.
Not going to happen. It took him a long time to run for governor, he and Harris even made a pact a few years ago, she’d run for Senate and he’d run for governor so he has no plans to go anywhere. According to the local (SF) news reporting on him and his ambitions. But what if he really wants to do a good job in Sacramento and not get into the swamp known as D.C.
@26degreesrising @haddockbranzini
They were divorced in 2006, she remarried, now has junior for comfort, she’s a nonentity. Let’s move on.
So he’s the West Coast Andrew Cuomo? I’m not sure I buy that – for him or Cuomo. And deals with Kamala Harris aside, I’d be astonished if we don’t see Gavin Newsome running sometime soon – and if he doesn’t do it in 2020 and a Democrat takes it, that shunts him into the neverland of 2028. Not sure that suits. But maybe. 2020 would be a slap in the face to California.
In any event, I’m not sure I buy that “it took him a long time to run…” either. It was politic of him not to run against Brown. He would’ve become persona non grata if he’d done that.
But we’ll see. Perhaps he doesn’t have ambitions. And for the record, if it turns out he does, I’d be all for having a look at him. If he plays well, then va bene. But I don’t move on from Guilfoyle. That says something, and nothing of what I’ve read of them as a couple takes the bad taste of that couple out of my mouth. Even if I wind up someday voting for Newsome for president, I’d still be turned off by that choice – though I do admit her optics were a bit better when she was assistant DA in SF.
CA is the 5th largest global economy. They should at least split in two and provide 2 more Senators as a counter to Wyoming 0.28K folks per Senator vs CA 18.6M folks per Senator (66-fold diff). The Founding fathers had no freakin idea.
An AP editor, who was fired an hour later, struck out the part about “the controversy over the possibility that the toddler’s actions had been scripted.”
