Cranky old man says current annoyance is the worst thing ever in his life or world history? You don’t say!
Nazi’s gotta Nazi. Give it an hour…he’ll be back on it.
“There’s a novelty factor … It’s one of those fantastical stories that it’s almost too interesting to not (share). … John is not a career politician, he’s a businessman, he’s not some polished politician.”
I think this is a reasonable and fair defense. Survivors of genocide are basically just another form of celebrity. I wonder if Mr. Cox took a selfie with the man to share on his Instagram. Fa-a-a-mous!
And yeah, you’re just so excited to talk about the Holocaust that you squeeze it into a ten-second sound bite that dribbles out of your lips a little bit wrong. I totally get it. I’m always a moment away from a casual Holocaust reference/comparison. It’s right on the tip of my tongue, I might start chatting about it at any moment.
“John likes to tell stories of people … and when he told me this, I was amazed that he met a Holocaust survivor, there’s not many who are still alive,” he said. “There’s a novelty factor … It’s one of those fantastical stories that it’s almost too interesting to not (share). …
Wait, - this sc*mbag thinks that Holocaust survivors are “novelties”??? They just don’t know when to stop
Ok, so I guess we’ll just whip out the old Magic Eraser and expunge this from everywhere it’s been quoted and make it like it never happened.
Don’t think so, son.
The same line of bunk they used to sell the current occupant in the WH to the base. I didn’t buy it then; I don’t buy it now.
I guess he saw his photo on his new driver’s license and liked it? His papers must have been in order.
Unless some real electoral bull crap happens here in the CA governor’s race, my suspicions suggest a cross the board sweep on a local, state and fed level.
BTW, I have to laugh–I think it was in May when Ronna McDaniels (nee Romney) or a blonde bot on MSNBC crowed about the top two primary system in CA may mean “divided Dems” could mean Cox makes #1 and Gavin is out of the race.
Cox made #2, literally and metaphorically.
"John is not a career politician, he’s a businessman, he’s not some polished politician.”
Forget the DMV, you should see the guys you gotta deal with to get a plumbing inspection!
While Californians will elect people from Hollywood, I’m always surprised when another rich business ego steps up so he or she can get shot down in the election. Never works.
"I was amazed that he met a Holocaust survivor, there’s not many who are still alive,” he said.
Clearly, the lesson of the Shoah is that the worst mass-murder in history can be pimped by a GOP campaign.
The survivors at my temple will be relieved to know that the “novelty factor” wasn’t utterly wasted on Cox.
Good to know millions didn’t die in vain.
The long lines at our DMV here in CA really have more to do with this year’s new, complicated, “Real ID” drivers license application process, which Cox perhaps failed to mention to the in-line folks he was collaring. From www.dmv.ca.gov.:
Jan 11, 2018 - Provide proof of identity, such as a certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, employment authorization document, permanent resident card or foreign passport with an approved form I-94. Present proof of your Social Security number, such as an SSN card, W-2 or paystub with full SSN.
His original comment was beyond offensive, even to a non-Jew like myself. How dare he trivialize the suffering of people who were rounded up and killed by comparing it to an hour-long wait for a license? Then again, he is a Republican; I expect nothing less from scum like that. Just imagine what would have happened if a Democrat made a similar statement.
Thinking before talking seems to have gone out of fashion since Trump’s election.
Ya know, most of the businessmen I know are smart enough to know that facile comparisons of the Holocaust to minor First World Problems are not something one should do. Those that aren’t trogolodytes.
You know, comparing the DMV to the Jewish registration in Germany is only marginally less offensive.
California Republicans have a new game to play: Who is more embarrassing, Trump, or Cox?
Oh it gets better than that! All the official online California documents say you absolutely do not need a Real ID to drive. But when I went to get my Oregon license switched over they told me that I did have to get a Real ID (after standing in line for an hour just to get a number) because out of state. This is stated nowhere. I go to the state police barracks. They look at all the official stuff and tell me I don’t need a Real ID to drive. I explain what happened. They called some subject matter expert at the DMV who confirmed that this the unpublished, secret policy now. Also you have to get your license switched within 10 or so days of being in California and it’s not always possible to get a certified copy of a birth certificate that fast so the whole thing is bonkers.
I asked the state police folks if they were going to continue to enforce that law in light of the new secret policy. They just gave me a pained look.
It’s certainly no Holocaust, but it is a terribly broken system
