FFS…CUT IT OUT!!! WTF is wrong with all these people?
It’s okay. California is filled with better dems.
Fake Democrat! A Republican in sheep’s clothing. And comfortable shoes…
Jesus H. Keerist what the hell happened to the California Democratic Party? This is like a cast of minor characters from a Fellini movie!
Drunk on victory.
The other day I was offered a glass of wine when I showed up to an afternoon meeting. It seems nearly everyone in the meeting was drinking a nice red wine. I don’t drink when I drive, so I declined. I did watch what was happening around me and noticed things that the others who were drinking didn’t notice about their own behavior and the behavior of their mates. If you do notice you aren’t shocked about what happened here.
It is easy in politics to develop an alcohol problem. From the afternoon bottle of wine or the three martini lunch it is a short step to allowing reduced inhibitions to take over. An alcohol induced pat on a butt or a stray comment about some woman’s breasts and the next thing you know a lifetime of hard work is ruined. Your marriage is destroyed and your friends don’t want to talk to you. Of course, there is no excuse. This is just to say that everyone in politics needs to remain aware of his or her surroundings and temptations and act accordingly.
Don’t be too quick to judge others. There but for the grace of God go many of us.
Get help, get whatever, but get out of Dem party management.
I’m still pissed about the Dem party putting up a San Diego mayoral candidate who, the public learned after not too long in office, had a problem keeping his hands and comments to himself. He seemed to especially like bothering women who had positions of authority. There was no way that the party insiders didn’t know that about him.
We’ve had GOP mayors since he left office.
We don’t know the details and while I don’t excuse saying stupid sh*t pre-metoo while drunk I certainly judge it differently.
But if he really told someone he’d “crush” them for pulling their endorsement while physically hurting them after they communicated his actions crossed the line … that’s obviously entirely different.
I’ve known hypersexual or people who tend to sexualize things. It’s unprofessional to act that way of course and most know when to keep it under wraps BUT I don’t know any power trippers that are hypersexual that don’t have serious freakin issues.
IOW, what’s described here isn’t a person you or I “could be” unless one of us has a serious problem.
And now for something completely different …
The United Methodist Building in Washington, D.C., is located next to the Supreme Court, and across the street from the Capitol.
I don’t have a serious problem. Do you? My comment was based on the article and his acknowledgement that he has an alcohol problem. I have known a lot of politicians who had alcohol problems. Many of them were sexual harassers when drunk. I once took a date to the Christmas party of an elderly drunk former Congressman. He made a pass at her. She warned him off and later told me not to do anything about it. Of course, that was in the days before social media and wall to wall snark. When lots of journalists I knew had the same problem so shit wasn’t reported. Women were expected to handle the sexual comments and harassment alone.
The comment about what happened at the event sounds like somebody was drunk. Maybe several somebodies.
Thankfully times have changed and guys can’t pat women on the butt or make obnoxious passes while drunk. They can’t even threaten people and get away with it. Maybe men and women in politics shouldn’t drink but last I looked they still do.
Not sure why you keep excluding these parts mentioned by me and in article:
One staffer, Allan Acevedo, told the Times that at a dinner with his boyfriend, Bauman and Bauman’s husband in 2016, Bauman “made a number of comments that evening about Acevedo having sex at his home,” in the paper’s words. Acevedo joked that he could revoke his endorsement of Bauman for state party chair. Bauman, Acevedo said, grabbed the back of his neck in a “vise grip,”
and told Acevedo he knew the endorsement would not be pulled. When Acevedo asked why, he said Bauman squeezed down on his neck and said, “Because I would crush you.”
I’ve known a lot of people who had alcohol problems who’ve said and done inappropriate things while drunk.
I’ve also known people with alcohol problems who have made threats and used physical intimidation while drunk but they were all jerks who should not be allowed near any position of power/authority.
ETA: also, it’s often consequences for their inappropriate actions while drunk that lead people with a problem to finally seek help, quit drinking.
There’s always someone on the main boards that wants to excuse/downplay awful behavior of this sort. I guess I should know that by now and not take the bait.
I am not one of them, bad behavior is bad behavior and shouldn’t be excused, and you are right. You shouldn’t take the bait.
In other words - he*s an alcoholic .
He has resigned at the urging of the governor.
