Good for Pete! He was really good this past Sunday. Both his interview on MTP…
and his speech at the LGBTQ Victory Fund brunch are both worth watching!
I watched both. I must confess that my democratic candidate crush on Buttigieg up-ticked a few more notches this past weekend - thoughtfulness and intelligence and openness out the wazoo!
I might just give him a few more dollars today!
So far Buttigieg is the only Dem that moves my counter. For sure it is not Bernnie or Biden both old men who should stay off any national stage. I like both Gillibrand and Warren but would rather they stay where they are, were they will do more good work.
Go Pete! I’d be going to the announcement Sunday if I didn’t have to work. Might be a TPMer or two in the crowd.
I’m very impressed by Buttigieg, but unfortunately my preferences are irrelevant, even if I had 25 million clones, for the simple fact that I live in New York.
The election will be won–or lost, as in 2016–by the turnout in Milwaukee WI, Detroit MI, and Philly PA. That’s it. If the largely African-American Dem base doesn’t turn out in any one of those cities, we’re almost certainly toast. If they turn out, we win. Is Buttigieg the one to make this happen? That’s quite unclear.
After watching Pete’s appearance on Meet the Press, I signed up for a monthly donation to his campaign through Act Blue. Most of the other candidates look stale and hackneyed next to him.
Since I live in Philadelphia, I take this to heart. My dream ticket is Buttigieg-Abrams. Perhaps that’s just a fantasy, but I enjoy imagining the discussions in the Situation Room …
I started to pay more attention to him after listening on Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me. He was refreshing, a cheerleader for his city and could laugh at himself, those are qualities that attract me much more so that the “Get Off My Lawn” folks.
That’s my fantasy ticket too! Though fantasies change, so who knows what mine will be in a couple months.
I’m in rural Pennsylvania. I do my part, but I know that’s not enough to deliver my part of the state. On election night, I always watch the Philadelphia returns with bated breath.
There is a part of me that believes (hopes?) that everyone’s fear about the African-American community not voting for a gay candidate is overblown. Times are changing quickly for the LGBTQ community, and just as in every family, their members are also present and loved in African-American families.
If anyone can do it (break this particular gay ceiling), I think Pete can do it.
My wife is smitten. She’s set up for automatic monthly donations to his campaign, she’s a fan of the memes that are appearing, she jokes about her daily perusal of the Web for stories is her being “on the Pete Beat,” and she and I think a Buttigieg-Harris ticket just might have legs. We even talked favorably about his agreeing to do a spot on Ben Shapiro’s show.
Me? I admit to being more circumspect, not because of any doubts I have about him but because I want to hear more from more of the candidates. But he’s in my own upper tier of candidates, I do admit.
I’m a bit guilty of that as well.
Though I do not believe he has the requisite experience for the job, were he nominated he would have my ardent support for the presidency.
This is the third media reference I’ve seen today about Buttigieg and LGBTQ support. I did not see any linkage before today. And it doesn’t really jibe with my reality, which is that many, may people have been drawn to Buttigieg regardless of their sexual orientation.
I am actually wondering if this is part of an orchestrated campaign to marginalize him as “the gay candidate” as in “people only support him because he’s gay…”
Which reminds me of something from a few years ago…
Sound kind of like you are apologizing. Why?
I like Mayor Pete and not because he is gay. I also know a number of people who are interested in him and also not because he is gay. I look forward to the debates which I hope will weed out the majority of candidates leaving only the most viable. Beating trump is the most important item on the agenda because I don’t think our country can survive another four years of trump. Pete is one of three that I’m excited about.
Me too!
I really love the guy. He is so impressive.
The media reference is probably due to the amazingly strong and honest speech that he gave at the LGBTQ Victory Fund brunch this past weekend.
He was on MTP earlier in the day, and his sexual orientation never came up - probably because it had nothing to do with the subject matter at hand or with any of Chuck Todd’s questions.
I just finished listening to his interview on Pod Save America and immediately sent him a donation.
He has made a good case for his 7+ years as mayor as providing (on a much smaller scale, of course) the kind of experience required of a presidential candidate, and he also makes the point that many years “marinating” in DC doesn’t automatically offer hands-on experience in managing people and budgets and getting things done. Equally if not more important, he’d surround himself with, and rely on advice from, people with expertise in areas where his own résumé is thin. Pete is clearly a very quick study, and voracious about absorbing new information.
