Discussion for article #235517
Its probably worth noting that in 2012 when Rove had his classic meltdown on FOX regarding them calling Ohio, that he admitted on the air that he was on the phone with the Romney campaign that very minute. And here he was advocating that a major network not call the state, so clearly coordinating and enacting tactics with the Romney campaign.
And the FEC did not say boo about it. Nothing. Nobody did.
So they whole “not coordinating” with the campaign is already a farce.
So, as we all suspected, it will be a WAR of MONEY waged by the Wall Street Oligarchs on one side (Jeb Bush) and the Bircher-Billionaires (Scott Walker) on the other with the remaining candidates reduced to fighting over the scraps that fall from the massive advertising table, and all the while the FEC looks the other way and whistles in the dark.
The MSM is SLAVERING with anticipation of the largesse coming it’s way and could not be happier. They will do all they can to gin up the fight to drive revenues to unheard of heights.
I just cannot get out of my head the scene in “The Life of Brian” where the two Roman Soldiers shake their heads at the sight of the multiple zealot groups fighting with each other over who are the REAL Jewish Revolutionaries: “The Peoples Front of Judea”, “The Front of the Judean People”, “The Judean Peoples Front”, etc. etc.
If it wasn’t so serious it would just be hilarious.
This gives me the impression that JEB is running scared even before the primaries get started. Clearly, the war of money was always going to be in play. But, I think JEB realizes he’s got some major headwinds in front of him from both the Right & the Left.
“The risk for Bush is that his super PAC will not have access to the candidate and his senior strategists to make pivotal decisions about how to spend the massive amount of money it will take to win the Republican nomination and, if successful, secure the 270 electoral votes he will need to follow his father and brother into the White House.”
The other risk is that if they f**k up,he;ll have to answer for it even if he legally can’t coordinate it. And you can bet that with all that money to spend, they will f$$k up.
Citizens United will certainly go down as one of the worst Supreme Court decisions in history. 2016 will likely be the ultimate test whether elections can be bought by a few wealthy men.
Which is one of the very real issues Hillary is going to be facing. Without any serious competition, the MSM is going to feel they are being jilted of their deserved revenue flow. And thus, much more amenable to carrying forth the attacks on her from the GOP candidates, who are filling their coffers as is expected. At least until the General rolls around.
Answer for it, probably not. There are no consequences any longer in this country if you are rich enough.
I am fairly confident that they already have a plan in place that will skirt the non coordination requirements. Just look at who is being named to head up these SuperPACs. And, like I said above, Rove already made a mockery of that requirement, and nobody said a thing about it. Even if someone does raise an issue, it won’t be resolved until well after the election.
If they f$$k up,he’s gonna be questioned by reporters, debate moderators etc. and HRC can attack him personally for it and he won’t be able to say that he’s not responsible for it.
I’m not sure it matters how much money Bush III has, he’s still not breaking double digits in the polling.
That is exactly why during the campaign he won’t be able to disclaim responsibilty in a public relations sense.
Just look at the contract the NYT signed with a known Reich-Wing professional character-assassin for his new (fictional) “expose” book “Clinton Cash”.
They just can’t help themselves.
It was important for JEB PAC to get that info out there now that they know and the public knows that a lotta the Koch Bros.’ dark money is gonna go to Walker.
It’s not going to be whether the PAC coordinates with the candidate and the campaign staff, it’s going to be whether that candidate coordinates with the PAC. Those who have the gold make the rules.
No, seriously. Other than drafting Jeb’s speeches and making sure he gets to events announced by the SuperPAC, what’s left for the the “official campaign” to do?
How do they do what they are planning to do without coordination? Isn’t the very plan itself evidence of coordinated activity?
How can they run campaign operations and not coordinate?
The idea is that once Bush breaks away to form a campaign, Murphy, Bradshaw and Kochel will have spent enough time working together so that the two groups will move in sync.
Sync, sank, sunk…
So they act illegally, will anyone take his win away if we find out they cheated? NO. So why not cheat?
My prediction is the GOP will be insisting on election finance reform after a couple of these elections.
