Discussion: Bush Family Promised WH There'd Be No Anti-Trump Talk At 41's Funeral

It might be heard to hear the media over the fireworks the rest of the country will be celebrating with, though.

And there’ll be thirty professional cameras and God knows how many phones trained on him, and if he acts bored or fidgety or mugs like a corny comedian or does anything at all inappropriate, which he will, it’ll go flashing around the world straight that moment from the pews. Truly we live in a golden age of hate-watching.

Pathetic that the Trumpski is reportedly being schooled on appropriate behavior for the funeral, the WH staff nervously and cautiously prepping the Mad King. However, judging from his fidgety performance at the Capitol Rotunda, even a moment of silent reflection is beyond the man. Melania appeared composed while Trump rocked and twitched like a toddler.

The invitation is stretching the boundaries of common sense in my mind. A promise that he not be humiliated? Trump is the source of all humiliation. Not worth the Air Force 1 ride, methinks. As for pure gestures? Donald Trump wouldn’t recognize a genuine gesture if he fell over it.

Oy!

More than that, praising ANY virtue in ANY person IS at least indirectly a rebuke of Trump. Certainly Bush Sr.'s virtues are necessarily rebukes of Trump.

You will hear him mutter “Do they need to talk about his military service so much ?”

To the best of my knowledge, no one has asked the pResident (Current Occupant, Oberbefehlscheisskopf, pick your favorite) to say a word or do anything other than show up.

My hope is that the family has made it clear to the Oberbefehlscheisskopf that:

  1. They are doing him a serious solid by inviting him at all;
  2. He should STFU for the duration.

They don’t need to grandstand. Praise of Bush as being, despite his many faults, a generally decent person who respected the office of the presidency and understood the weight of leadership, will be taken as implicit bashing of Trump because he is none of those. And rightly so.

The only reason Bush’s many bad sides are so overlooked (even before his death, but more so now) is because his son and then Trump were each exponentially worse.

According to a former administration official who spoke to the Post, the Bush family contacted the White House this summer to welcome Trump to the funeral.

How does that work ? Like
“Just wish to tell you, he will snuff it soon, I just heard him cough. Come to the funeral, no McCains will speak.”

“they also wanted to ensure the funeral was carried out according to the family’s wishes, including the use of Air Force One to carry his remains to and back from Washington, D.C.”

Just curious–since Donnie Dotard is a known, self-confirmed germaphobe will he make them trash AF-1 because it had an icky dead body in it? Stay tuned.

He’ll probably bolt right after. Who’s going to want to talk to him?

He will be hunched over and tweeting with a scowl.

According to an article I saw, the plans to invite the current president and have GW Bush speak instead of current president were in place before trump was elected. Mainly due to rare situation of son being a president too.

I have no issue with respecting the office of president and inviting the turd.

I love that he is going to be in time out the whole time and was pointedly not invited to speak. I think that is going to weigh on the turd more than not being invited (where he could have taken on the role of the wronged victim).

I listen to him and Rachel through podcasts. I use Switcher and sometimes TuneIn If Switcher is slow in downloading their shows.

ETA It’s called Sticher, not Switcher. I shouldn’t type with blurry vision!
