Discussion: Budget Expert: 75 Percent Chance Federal Government Will Shut Down

Discussion for article #240793

Is there a 75 percent chance or a 75 percent change? TPM may want to hire a preafrooder.

How much is it going to cost us THIS time?

Last time it was what? 29 billion?

shutting down the government over a social issue in which 75% of the country fully supports PPH is just plain stupid. I feel sorry for the moderates of the gop as the their party continues to spin into the sewers.

Sewers? Shit, their party has already reached the secondary treatment plant and is currently in the flocculation tank.

I wonder if PP officials ever sent the word out to their staff to just STFU and do their jobs, leaving the dispensing of information to inquiring persons in the hands of public information specialists trained to give it out?

There is a 75% chance that TPM will have a blatant typo in it’s story that tries to make misspellings and typo’s news. Please put out an ad for some proofreaders.

I am on your side, but sharpen it up and focus on what mattes.

I love this! Near to the 2016 election and these GOP nut job candidates will be falling all over themselves to see who can yell “shut it down” louder while running for the commander in chief. Democrats may make their largest gains ever!

“…Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would have a particularly hard time persuading the four Republican senators running for president to vote for any bill that funds Planned Parenthood.”

How he'd even get their attention is questionable. Perfecting their Donald Trump imitations certainly must consume all their spare time.

75% chance, eh? Someone actually calculated the crazy.

75% strikes me as low.

“Flocculating tank”? I think you owe a dollar to the swear jar.

Yet 40% of American women will STILL vote GOP in 2016! I guess their husbands are right, “You JUST DON’T LISTEN!”

Nah, Boehner, McConnell and Obama will gang up on Congressional dead-enders and get a CR at minimum, if not a short term budget. None of the three wants to deal with a shutdown, and whatever rules need maneuvered or waived to jam it through will happen. Business as usual.

And there will be no “disastrous” website roll out to save them this time. In retrospect, the Healthcare.gov roll out may wind up being one of the worst things that ever happened to the GOP. The roll out spared GOPers any comeuppance for shutting down the government and moved the focus completely away from the shutdown. Because they suffered no consequences they think they can get away with doing it again. That’s why they’ll do it again, but they’ll not have the website roll out to hide behind and they’re not fighting for Senate seats in ruby red states. Most of this election will be fought on blue or purple turf, in places where shutting down the government over Planned Parenthood funding is about as popular as bed bugs.

To get triple however, you’d have to go much, much farther:
