Discussion: Brown Passes On Chance To Apologize For Suggesting Obama Was Sexist

Discussion for article #236330

“I don’t want this to be personal…”

“…which is why I attacked Obama personally with falsehoods…”

Eat a bag of dicks, Sherry.

Senator Brown…you were wrong. Be gracious about it and say “oops” and next time, if you think something might be sexist wait until a woman says something because you’re being just as sexist by insisting you know what is and isn’t sexist.

I really like Senator Brown and all he stands for, but I don’t believe President Obama was/is being sexist in his remarks. I’ve heard him refer to other elected officials by their first names. Also, Obama and Warren were friends prior to her even considering running for office.

Please, guys, stick to the topic at hand–the TPP. Thank you.

Actually, Obama and some of his campaign staff were sexist in 2008. “You’re likable enough, Hillary”

Which was generous, considering Hillary isn’t likable at all.

"Obama and Warren have been locked in an ongoing feud over the TPP. "

Show me what Senator Warren has said to be described as “feuding” with the president? In criticizing the TPP she is doing her job as she sees fit. The Obama administration is doing all of the feuding unilatteraly by using cheesy and dismissive language against their critics. This is no doubt designed to let the corporate media know that it’s time to start taking down Warren and other progressive critics. The neoliberal Democrats, like Obama, are about to show their true corporate colors again and it isn’t going to be pretty. But this is still not news, is it.

That’s kind of the problem. The personal nature of the attacks are way over the line, and have made a lot of otherwise sympathetic Democrats very suspicious of Warren and Brown now.

And actually it’s come up a lot in ‘insider’ stories on how the Obama White House works,. And it’s evident in how he relates to his wife in joint interviews.

IMO while not a massive problem it IS a problem and it’s a problem that arises at some fairly important points.Recall the ‘other Sherrod’, Shirley, and how reflexively Obama’s WH jerked her around for a resignation and self-throw under a bus. Obama’s treatment of Sibelius suggests HE was a problem in the resourcing of the launch. Obama is constantly reflexive in saying, not just of his own wife and of Hillary Clinton by of former governor jennifer granholm, things that direct to their relative popularity and appearance.

I’m with Senator Brown on this: it’s happened too many times in too many different ways.

This is still such a manufactured piece of faux outrage being ginned up by all the usual subjects. Morning Joke, Ms. Greenspan…this is who Sherrod Brown and the WH are having to answer to over this tripe nonsense. Talk about TPP and what it will and won’t do for the American worker…and get on with doing your fucking job of interviewing over the actual trade deal instead of this Fishbowl DC blather. Its so annoying.

More pandering to the Kardashian fans who just can’t wait to get sucked into this distraction. It’s the TPP that matters, not this horse shit.

I think you’ve got that backwards. But nice try.

Let’s stick to the issues, guys.

Is the issue whether Obama is a sexist in general or whether this exchange was sexist?
So if people come up with dozens of examples of the president referring to male politicians by their first name when discussing policy differences does this change your opinion?

Stupid comment. And wrong

I’d have to call that snide, condescending and somewhat inappropriate, but I fail to see how the substance of that comment is at all “sexist” unless and until you start grafting meanings onto it that are not present on its face and/or engage in this game of “he’d never have said that to a man,” which of course is silly, not onyl because that’s just pure speculation and tinfoil hattery, but also because he’s made similar snide comments towards McCain and Mittens and a whole host of other GOPer men and we’ve cheered for it. I remember one particularly good one…forget exactly what it was…but he did it while speaking at some event right to Cantor’s face and it was glorious. We were all sporting political bitch-slap afterglow for like a week after.

And let’s be clear. Just because he condescended to a woman doesn’t mean he was being sexist. Being condescending or a dick is just that: being condescending or a dick. The target having a vajayjay doesn’t automatically transform it into sexism. Too many liberals fail at being able to recognize and accept the distinction. It goes to what I’ve been saying about being so predisposed to seeing the “-isms” that you actually rationalize your way to finding it even when it’s not there, because it’s almost a badge of honor at this point to manufacture a clever argument that transforms something into an -ism…like you’re showing your liberal bona fides, sensitivity to the issue and oh look at how astute you are for recognizing that “for what it really is.” I’m almost as sick of it as the Teatrolls, frankly, because it does nothing but damage our ability to draw attention to the real incidences of the -isms and creates a “crying wolf” situation that feeds their ability to downplay and roll their eyes and “pffffffff” at the real incidences as just more “card playing” etc.

Also, I have to agree with whateverdude…I’ll probably vote for Hillary and agree with most of her politics well enough and consider her a good candidate and well qualified, but she’s not what I consider “likable” in any sense of the word and that’s one of her biggest stumbling points.

This is a silly issue so now can we move on to a real discussion of what is in the treaty and where the differences are.

Media, please do your work.
