Just as she was elevated by Jeb Bush, now her successor will also be picked by a Republican.
Expect more incompetence.
Expect shenanigans*

Always — but (for example) no one else forced an awful ballot design on Broward County.
That was a gift from Snipes.
It wasn’t just her. She didn’t design that ballot but her office did employ it. There’s much deeper issue here. That part of my state is famously Democratic but it always has problems that result in it’s votes not getting counted. Florida has been under GOP control for 20 years or more. ( NO it’s not a swing state ) and SoFla thing never got fixed. Law of odds says this is an engineered, not accidental thing. DeSantis is one puke mother fucker so it’s going to continue. Watch South Florida in 2020…same ole same ole.
She did not design it personally, but she did personally approve its use.
And as an experienced official, and as a member of a federal commission that had advised against such designs, she should have known better.
That part of my state is famously Democratic but it always has problems that result in it’s votes not getting counted.
True, but in her four-plus terms in office, what did Snipes do to address those problems?
I’m not suggesting she’s the only one to blame. I’m just saying her incompetence was … magnificent.
Here’s a hint: if you want to get ahead don’t use your opponents memes. The “incompetent Snipes” thing is a GOP meme to cover the root cause of what went down in SoFla: engineered institutional chaos. Snipes didn’t allocate funding. Rick Scott did and he made sure she never had enough. The state of Florida threw up hurdles for SoFla that it did not in the panhandle and other solid GOP’er areas. And we all know why. The GOP in Florida is a minority power. But it is in power and it plans to stay there. It will cheat, blatantly if necessary, to do so. And they pulled it off again.
I don’t know if Snipes is actually incompetent. But like you I’ve been inundated with GOP sources that she is. I’ll leave it at that.
Thanks for the hint.
I do.
No, she’s competent. At being corrupt. She’s the one who illegally destroyed the ballots of the 2016 Democratic Primary election in order to deny a request, and subsequent lawsuit forcing her to honor the request, for the Tim Canova campaign to physically inspect the ballots…
Snipes works in Wasserman-Schulz’s district. Surely a Rep. has something to say about how a Dem registrar gets the job done. W-S knows the district, knows the players. Why has she been so lousy at building an effective Dem Party in FL. She just keeps failing
I haven’t tried to prove corrupt intent so I stick with incompetence for now.
Some defend her because “the state of Florida threw up hurdles.” But as I asked above, what did she do about those “hurdles” in her four-plus terms in office? (Other than approve the use of ridiculous ballot forms, I mean.)
IOW, never blame a Democrat for their shortcomings when you can pin the blame on Republicans.
Approving that ballot design was sheer incompetence or willful sabotage. You ever think that maybe Jeb appointed her for a reason?
Can you say for sure she’s really a Democrat at heart?
But Dems have been utterly supine, even absent. The party is a shambles and to claim it’s the GOP’s fault is to surrender before there’s even a fight.
Who would want that job? No, seriously. If you care deeply about people being able to vote it’s going to burn you out in short order. Yes, it’s crucial, but it’s also the kind of job where we need enough local activists that we can afford to burn a few of them out on jobs that the state makes almost impossible to do well.
I would like to see more investigation of how that ballot came to be. Was the layout suggested by a vendor and Broward just went with it? How did Hillsborough come to have a ballot with the instructions at the top of the age spanning 3 columns? Did the same vendor provide those ballots? Who programs the optical scanners? There can’t be too many such organizations.
Blaming the person at the top is easy, and likely necessary, but somebody decided to put the Broward instructions in column 1, and it wasn’t necessarily her.
The other thing to blame here is the Nelson campaign. Whether by intent or accident they got ratfucked, and did nothing to protect themselves. Look at the damned ballot if only to check that they spelled your name and party right. If there’s a problem you then use your campaign personnel to make sure every damned voter knows about the problem and how to avoid it.
