“Unit 22 of the Territorial Army”
I think the correct military designation would be 22 Intelligence Company , which apparently was supporting the 1(British) Corps, stationed in Bielefeld, Germany. (It does not mean the 22 Int Coy itself were stationed in Bielefeld, but it may, on paper, have had a role assigned in case of a conflict, chances of which, in 1989, was evaporating pretty fast).
According to this https://www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/int-and-sy-group-ta-late-1980s.188888/
22 Int Coy was roled as an Interrogation Company in support of 1 (BR) Corps and had a number of language specialities, not just Russian.
This appears consistent with Ghorka’s language skills (primarily Hungarian) and raises doubts about his counter-terrorism experience, Catholic, Protestant or Islamic (at that time Islamic Terrorism was pretty small stuff in Western Countries).
