Discussion: BREAKING: Democratic Senate Nom Will

Why did Kansas elect the corrupt Kobach?

And how do you know this? Crystal balls or those without the crystal?

Sorry, wrong strategy. Most Kansans won’t vote for anyone with a (D) after their name. Greg Orman is ahead in part because he’s an independent.

What if Kansas elects no Senator because of Kobach’s improper meddling?

Why on earth would he caucus with the party that has been trying to screw him over from the get-go?

Actually, I know it because I’ve been following this race closely. The (D) candidate and the (I) candidate were splitting the Pat Roberts’ opposition vote. Democrats decided that an independent candidate had a better chance of winning election in Kansas and so they convinced Chad Taylor to withdraw from the race. Do the research if you don’t believe me.

A lot better than Bush v. Gore.

It doesn’t matter. There’s no way Roberts loses in Kansas this year.

Any place is Hell when GOPers call the shots.

Nope, not a crystal ball. It’s simply the only thing that makes any sense. Do you really think Democrats didn’t get assurances from Orman that he’d caucus with them? Do you really think Taylor dropped out not knowing if he was effectively handing the GOP a win-win? Do you really believe Republicans would be fighting this so hard if they thought there was a snowball’s chance in hell of Orman caucusing with them? The political chattering class and Orman can all play coy, but it’s a game and we don’t have to play along.

Significant, and genuine. Just about ever since the 2012 election and the scorched-earth politics the Tea Party employed here, moderate Republicans and Democrats came to see themselves as allies in the ā€œenemy of my enemy is my friendā€ sense of things. Democrats here aren’t talking about turning the state blue; they just want some fiscal sanity and some restored respect for education. Maybe we’ll get it at the state level.

Can you play, Don’t Hit Your Grandma with a Great Big Stick?

Wait… that one makes me cry.

Yup. That train left the station about midway through the 2013 legislative session.

That’s what’s happened here in Kansas as well: Income taxes were cut (except for those in the lowest two quintiles, of course), and to make up for revenue shortfalls, the state sales tax, which had been scheduled to be reduced, wasn’t, and counties have increased property taxes to make up for lost revenues.

Here, a republican governor can claim to reduce state taxes when he’s getting you just fine on a local level, including public education, btw, while sending state monies to private, i.e. religious schools.

And Snyder has given tax beaks to corporations. The shortfall has to come from somewhere. This county has it and votes democratic.

I still have my doubts about this race. But, I am thrilled that the R’s will need to throw a lot of time, energy and money into it. Hopefully it will be a distraction that reaps dividends in several other seemingly close contests.

Kobach has that tea potty mindset like McDonnell in MS. They will not give up, they will lie cheat and steal until they get their way. Of course, they are not getting their way so it should be fun to watch the insanity that ensues. Kobach thinks he owns KS and he is not going to walk away civilly. Bet the Kochs are not too happy about now.

LOL. Ya. I guess he’s getting a mouthful.

The Dems should put Kobach on the ballot on their line.
