Discussion: Border Separations Ripple Through Midterm Campaigns

The Dems should run on this issue. Every hour of every day. With pictures. Audio, too, if they can get it.

Ask their constituents if this is their America.

Every day, every hour, every opportunity.

ETA: and shoot down the whataboutism. Don’t even play into it. This is happening now. False outrage over someone else doing it (or not doing it, because they lie. A lot.) doesn’t cut it anymore.

Every ripple is a wave.

Steve Stivers:

he’s asking “the administration to stop needlessly separating children from their parents” and suggested he’d examine legislative options if Trump doesn’t budge.

Right like Susan Collins is going to get that vote by the end of January… I guess it could happen, but it wont be before January 2020. Stivers just spills more Republican bullshit.

The fact that this vile performative cruelty is being deployed by Trump as distraction from Mueller/Russians/collusion does not preclude Americans #resisting it, or Dems running on it. It’s possible to think about BOTH the border AND Trump/Russia.

Still, Democratic pollster Paul Maslin offered a caveat to members of his party sensing a new opening: the public’s short attention span. “In Trump world, the stories change daily, if not hourly,” he said. “It was North Korea just last week. Immigration this week. Next week, who knows? Round and round we go.”

This one has legs. Designed cruelty against children is much harder for Americans to forget.

True … however, Trump/Russia money laundering and corruption is not as visceral as kids crying for their moms and dads. Fighting fire with :fire: is something the Dems need to get good at quick. Luckily, it seems they’re fast learners.

Of course, they should. But they won’t.

People don’t forget the sights and sounds of children being tortured in real time.

When ripping children from their parents, guards tell their parents that they are just taking their children for a shower and will bring the children back afterwards. The children are never returned; they disappear. Auschwitz? No. ICE agents at America’s concentration camps.

Posted from another site: What the people who came up with, implemented, and co-signed this inhumane policy don’t seem to realize is that even if you have zero empathy and compassion for children, the most helpless among us. Your sense of self preservation alone should cause you to join the fight against this evil. The scripture say, paraphrasing, it would be better for you to have a millstone ( a 3000 pound weight ) tied around your neck and for you to be thrown into the ocean, than for you to hurt a child. That would be a better outcome for you. And for those who don’t subscribe to any Christian code of ethics there’s the oft quoted “ karma is a bitch ! “ For those who would ignore both of the aforementioned let me just say “ I was just following orders “ didn’t work at Nuremberg and it won’t work now!

For anyone who is interested…it is raising funds to help with the situation. They have a FB presence as well.

It should be an easy answer for any politician when asked about separations, no, hell no… any other answer disqualifies them for office, any office from dog catcher to president.

Apparently, the marches on this issue are being organized, nationwide.

Perfect, thanks. I’m all in.

It is going to take weeks to do the physical work of tearing down the tents and moving the children to other locations all while under scrutiny of the people and the press.
